Portaria seemed like a nice village. The taxi driver recommended this place. We took a taxi from volos for 17 euros.
The restaurant was in the main plaza of the village. It had a nice fire place and felt really wintery. We thought it was expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. The food was really heavy on our stomachs because it was extremely oil. As a result we had a hard time sleeping at night. The ambience of the restaurant though was just right.

This is where you find the real Greek hospitality and can feel real Greek spirit. After giving them a chance for first night, we ended up going there all other nights. Really great team of young people so polite, so in service, so kind, that you get a feeling that you're the only guest in restaurant. And believe me, there can be a line waiting to be seated.
If coming to Kala Nera and neighborhood, make a visit here and believe me, you won't regret it.

We are veggies and had lots of choices, several salads and dips and all was very tasty with a lick that we did not feel at dinners all over the north and center of Greece for the last week
The zucchini patties hat a nice touch of anis,
The green pepper in the salat as from their garden and was very mild. The Tziziki was generous with garlic an i liked it and so was the Eggplant dish that was grilled thin slices of it seasoned above and a sprinkle of cheese.
The fried cheese with sesame in cucumber(?) oil with honey was GREAT.
The service was very good, the waiteras very rapid in his move and looking at clients to see if he was needed.
The oner came in as we were in the middle of dinner and introduced herself, and it felt tyat she cared of the other dinning table near us
The place is small , saw the sunset as we had a glass of(the owner's) home made wine.

We visited this place in order to.drink our coffee. It was really good with a nice view. They serve sweets too but we didn't order. The waiter wasnt polite at all.

One of the superior eateries in the greater Volos area. Very pleasant during the summer, with huge trees offering generous shade (we visited in August). The freshness of the ingredients was obvious. They smoke their own pork steaks, recommended. Very relaxed atmosphere, lots of room for the children to run around, if you visit for lunch on a weekday (as we did).

The large restaurant in Kissos, with some tables on the airy veranda.
The menu consists mainly of the meat dishes and vegetable starters.
Some dishes, especially cooked, not grilled, are really great, like lamb in limone souce or fabulous ossobuco. The wine list is not long, but offers few good labels, at reasonable price.
The family owners take care about the guests, supported by the attentive waiters staff.
Before having the meal, it's must to see the sleepy Kissos vilage, with cobbled streets and stone church in the shadow of giant plane-tree. Charming, peaceful place, with dinning to remember.

Very pleasant and polite staff. Quite a variety of dishes and tastes! Our salad was fresh and instantly (the fruit pieces were cold and the chicken pieces were worm). The delicious appetizers with cold cuts and/or cheese prepared us for an equally delicious pasta (many types served). The wine catalog is very complete too! Definitely a good choice for lunch or dinner, either family, friends or couple, in a cosy place outside of but near to the town center.
