The Aubergine Gallery Cafe

Reviewed By spencer2leitrim - Leitrim

Visited the Aubergine on Saturday 28th October with a group of friends. We were placed the closest you could be to the kitchen which was no way intrusive. We ordered pretty much a main of every choice, steaks, stir fried chicken Fish and Lamb so very much a variety. The two first dishes out were the stir fried chicken, straight away one of the girls said her her meal was cold, the other girl tried hers and it too was cold. Hard to understand as it had come not three feet from the kitchen, they were sent back and returned a few minutes later piping hot, how did we manage without microwaves ??
All meals followed pretty quickly and I received my steak ordered medium and it was very good, a good size and cooked very well. Accompanying my steak were three beautiful onion rings which were delicious and crispy there was also a little greenery which consisted of some 3-4 tiny leaves of bag lettuce, two slivers of raw onion and a tiny tiny cherry tomato cut in half. Completely unnecessary and put there simply to fill the plate. My main disappointment were the sweet potatoes they were very bad, cold mushy and for me inedible. I ate my meal and could have eaten more, and I am not a big eater. Three onion rings and a steak is not good enough.

Luigi's

Reviewed By Geraldine M - Mullingar, Ireland

Went in here after attending a show in the town. Was still hungry after an overpriced, tiny meal in a different restaurant in this town earlier that evening. Chipper was busy but ample staff were working. Ordered chips and tea, coke to share. Food was ready immediately and we sat down to eat. Tea was in a pot, which was nice. I can only comment "Holy Moly"! These are the most amazing chips I have ever tasted. I love Italian chipper chips but have not tasted as good as these anywhere! They were more like roasted or pan fried potatoes, really fat and cooked perfectly. So much so we ordered a second portion to share. All I can say is please open another branch in Mullingar so I can have these more often. The next time I'm back in Longford will skip the fancy eatery's so I can come here and try out your burgers too.

I could not fault this restaurant for it's food and it was good and the amount of people who came in even during our brief stay was testament to the quality.
We were travelling across country and stopped off for a snack and "real coffee" which is hard to get in Longford which is full of restaurants. Good coffee is not to be found unless I missed it in my rush to grab a quick bite and wash it down with nice coffee. You soon tire of petrol station coffee.
The waitress got us seated as soon as she could and everything was grand until it came to coffee. My wife likes a Cappuccino but the waitress drowned it with too much milk and the taste of coffee disappeared. My coffee was a tad better but it was obvious that a Barista she was not. I would come back for the food but coffee no!

A new restaurant on the main Dublin Sligo route. Owner David. Food very good reasonably priced. Excellent service

Reviewed By ejm99 - Roanoke, United States

Mondays mean many restaurants are closed in the area. Wife and I selected TN as the best of the open Monday establishments. Arrived about 6:15 pm. Promptly had a table cleaned for us in the front window of the restaurant. The weather was unusually hot. Restaurants and hotels in Ireland are not built for hot. It was warm in the restaurant. Windows and doors were open. Six or so flies were stationed in the front window buzzing around. Tolerable. Ordered fish and chips. Came with a house salad on a puréed pea base. Salad was very tasty. Fried cod was a little on the soggy side. It was ok. We had white wine and a Diet Coke to drink. Restaurant does not serve beer or hard liquor. Only wine. Server and cook were friendly and provided good service. Contrary to trip advisor and other information, the restaurant closes at 7 pm on Mondays. Ok food. Good service. Probably better in cooler weather.

Have been going to the Rising Sun for over 10 years. We drive 30 minutes from especially to eat at this Chinese (when we have loads of restaurants including Chinese to choose from in our town) so that shows how much we enjoy visiting , we have brought other family and friends here and they also now return on a regular basis. I am confused at the negative comments below, as we have always found the food and service excellent.

Went to the Torc Cafe for lunch while on a pit stop in Longford. The staff were friendly enough though seemed a bit distracted. We ordered a BLT and a Tikka Tikka wrap and both where fine, not wow but for the price we where happy and left full. We purchased a takeaway malteser cake when leaving and this left us rather disappointed, it was €5 which was very pricey for not so big a cake and just didn't taste great.

McDonald's

Reviewed By Gooner10_8 - Dublin, Ireland

We've been coming to this McDonald's Outlet, from the time it opened, and have greatly appreciated the care, attention, first-class service, and, indeed, warmth, we've experienced from Seamus (Owner) + wonderful colleagues like Suraj, Damien, Kumar, Richard and several others.
Now, the place has been (dramatically) physically renovated, and it looks all the better for that. But the process of actually getting your Food (and how that Food turns out) has also been very noticeably changed. As we understand the "New System", you now order on a Screen, or at the Counter, get an "Order Number", and, eventually, what you wanted is "produced" as you stand around .[Apparently, McDonald's "Big Thought" is that you will get fresher food, hanging around, as well as "enjoying" playing with "Screen Technology" as you order it!].
Well, our initial experience was that the Food delivered to us was less good than before : if "Fresh" means being delayed + then under-cooked, we've a different view of what is an "improvement", so someone ought, in our view, look at this.
As for so many years, people like the ever-impressive, customer-sensitive and always charming Suraj did their best to make us feel welcome, but our most recent visit here was one of the least impressive we've had over so many years.
'Hopefully things will improve, as both Staff and Customers get used to the "New System" - in our eyes, "the Jury is out" !
