Apple Granny

Reviewed By dopey1200 - Cincinnati, Ohio

We went to the town of Lewiston on a recommendation from a tour guide at Niagara Falls State Park. While in town, we googled restaurants to see what was around. Apple Granny came up & was listed as having good homemade pies, so we decided that was the place for us! Our meals were very good & they have a huge menu with everything from filet mignon to sandwiches. Service was very good & the place has neat decor with a few really cool antique pieces. There is also a full service bar & my dad was quite happy with his generous serving of Tanqueray. Then, it was time for dessert. We asked the waitress what kind of pies they had and she rattled off a list of about 20, including a few cakes as well. I had the banana cream pie & it was full of real banana slices (not just pudding like most). My brother had the cheesecake & it was the best cheesecake I've ever tasted (maybe because it was New York style & we were in New York?). All in all it was a great place for dinner & we'd go back if in town again.

Silo Restaurant

Reviewed By SharkByte_Rob - North Tonawanda, New York

We usually go to the Silo for the red caboose, which is where they serve ice cream. During a lot of warmer summer evenings, the lines will be quite long. Although it's just "Perry's Ice Cream", it's the sundaes that make them normally stand out.

They change up their "special" listing every few weeks, depending on the holiday or the time of the year. We went in mid-September, so there were some "back to school" type sundaes. Because of the time of the year, something felt off about here.

Normally, I would rate this 4-stars, but I'm rating them on my experience this time. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing experience. First was their staffing. They were really disorganized and taking extremely long to service people. One couple didn't order it, but got four sundaes when they ordered just two (although they took both). They seemed confused and unsure sometimes. They were out of any peanut butter ice cream, so any sundaes that contained PB, had to substitute something else. At least they had peanut butter sauce.

At the end, my sundae came out fine, although my wife had to keep changing it up due to not having any of the still-advertised peanut butter ice cream flavors (they could have crossed them off the list on the outside), but her sundae came out ok.

The last complaint is that they stated they were open until 9pm, and at 7:50pm, they shut most their lights off on the outside & inside, almost seemingly like they were trying to shoo away potential customers. At least there are a few better ice cream places up the street a little.

We have eaten here 8 or 9 times. We have had dinners and lunches and have brought family and friends here.
You can buy a flight of 5 sample beers for $10. We have done that on several occasions.
We ordered 2 flights last night along with our dinners.
My wife’s cost $10.00. Mine cost $10.00 plus $9.00 because 3 of the beers were “premium”. One beer was an additional $1.00 the other was $8.00 extra. There is no way I would have ordered that if I knew that there was a surcharge.
Brickyard has lost a loyal customer.

Villa Coffee House

Reviewed By Winnie A - Lewiston, New York

This was our go-to place for breakfast for a long time. The original owner was a character which only added to the charm of the place.

The food was consistently what you want from a breakfast joint -- quick, hot, good, and reasonable.

Once it got sold when the owner retired it went down in quality a little I think. We don't go there as much anymore.

There was more potato than anything else in my mixed eggs the last time I was there to sit down.

I do stop here for takeout though because I travel quite a bit and leave early in the morning. They make an outstanding egg and ham sandwich. WAY better than anything McD's could make.

The service is always very good.

So this is a really nice place in a strip mall on a street parallel to the main drag which is Center Street.

If was only going to have one day for breakfast here then I'd go to Mangia just because their food is better quality and they have more interesting items on the menu. But if you're looking for quick, hot, good, and reasonable then this is your place.
