Les Embruns

Reviewed By CindyAnn37 - Somerset

My husband and I were both very impressed with Les Embruns. The situation was excellent – just a short walk from the hotel we were staying in. The interior was bright and colourful, and the welcome was friendly. The dinner menu had a good selection of dishes – I chose the sea bass, and my husband had a Charolais steak. Both were cooked to perfection, and presented well. We finished up with the chocolate fondant. The meal was accompanied with a very good 2011 Chinon red wine.
The only negative point was that two diners had bought dogs into the restaurant with them, and both were a bit noisy at times. We find this often in restaurants in France.

However, overall we were very pleased with our meal, and would recommend this restaurant to others.

Based on our night here, this is 4 stars if you have kids, 3 stars or less of you don't.
When we were there (2030, Sat night in late July), it was crowded, noisy and not a very pleasant atmosphere if you wanted some piece and quiet - sort of like Club Med without the buffet. That being said, if you have kids, it's a great choice, as there are lots of families so you won't feel bad if your kids are a bit loud, the food is in fact very good (much better than many totally child friendly places), the prices fair for the quality, and the youngish Waitstaff really moves fast to try to cope with the crowd. In fact we didn't have to wait long for our food, despite it being full up. There are just a few tables outside, a bit away from the bustle, if you are clever perhaps you can book one of those. We sampled the pizza, the moules and the filet steak, each of which was very good.

Cote Jardin

I remembered eating here a couple of years ago and so hubby and I returned last night. We sat in the back garden area which is all covered and has heaters which is great on a cool evening.
Truly the best meal of the last 3 weeks, and we've had a lot! The fois gras is to die for and the duckling so tender served with tiny potatoes and a lovely salad. Hubby had the steak and it was cooked to perfection along with frites and a salad.
Dessert was the profiteroles which were huge and delicious. The service was perfect and wine selection great. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Also nice that it is tucked on a back street away from all the tourist spots. I would suggest a reservation as it is not large and fills quickly. The open kitchen is spotless.

La Coccinelle is located within walking distance from the St Martin de Re harbour. The menu is renewed on a daily basis according to the fresh products from vegetables, fruits, meat or fish available. All the food served is homemade. Starters combined not only fresh tasty mixed salads but also marinated salmon, and wonderful tasty tarts. Mussels on a bed of pine needles cooked over a fire is the unusual dish of the house, interesting mostly for it's novelty value. Otherwise food was good rather than excellent, all served with help and efficiency. Fine choice of wines, though this wasn't of interest to me is worth noting. Evening I went was unluckily marred by several tables with children, hope you manage a better atmosphere there!

The Cabanajam recipe for a wonderful seafood experience is deceptive simple ....
Take one stunning location, on the cliff-tops overlooking the North coast of Ile-de-Re; blend with help-yourself outdoor Seating at pastel-parasoled picnic tables; & add in a warm welcome, & some friendly & efficient service.
Now prepare yourself for the key ingredient: the freshest of fresh produce; we enjoyed delicate oysters; succulent langoustine; & perfect prawns ... all just served with delicious crusty bread, beautifully & simply prepared, & tasting as if they were a still in the sea until minutes ago.
Finally, garnish with a selection of nicely presented local wines; & serve with a level of value for money that's simply outstanding.
Et voila ... !

La Martiniere

Reviewed By Working_Mum_10 - Leicestershire

What can you find wrong with this lovely place?
Maybe the huge prices? ( At 3 euro for one boule it is frighteningly expensive) but the flavours and colours are sublime.
Go to one of the many restaurants, but skip pudding and then join the throngs of happy people eating ice cream by the harbour.
Honestly it is one of the major memories from our repeat holidays in St Martin, and a reason in itself to visit.
