It’s difficult to find that restaurant in Zanzibar which is perfect in every way but “Saruche” tries hard. The wine list included some nice South African choices but overall I don’t think they store the wines properly and any vintage more than two years is likely bad from the heat and humidity...our choice was very borderline past....they literally take “serve at room temperature” too literally and store it this way as well :/ The calamari taster from the chef was a nice surprise and seemed promising. We had two catches of the day - Kingfish and Kolekole- which were beautifully presented and decent portions but like most restaurants we experienced, over cooked and a bit dry.....so ask them not to overlook it and it might come out prefect. I just wish I could find a place that kept things simple, didn’t try cooking western, used their beautiful local spices and didn’t over cook the fish! “Sunset restaurant” a few places to the east did better and is less expensive....same views....which are always beautiful. Saruche doesn’t open until 7:30pm and you likely need a reservation in high season. Above Saruche is a rooftop bar “Cinnamons” - a nice spot to watch the sunset before dinner.

We visited this place in 2015 and 2014 great food at reasonable price with big portions. We were disgusted with our visit in 2016. Prices rose immensely you literally see the stickers to cover the old prices. Extremely small portions. We are still waiting for WiFi code safe to say there is no WiFi anymore. The lobster curry was basically a soup with a few pieces of overcooked flavourless lobster. Service was fast but surely you can find better value in the area. The king prawns was also just price prawns. We ordered cocktails from the menu but was told we basically should choose something else because they did not have ingredients. Orders did not come complete and they forgot the rice.

My girlfriend and I went here twice during our holiday at Zanzibar. The main courses are quite good, definitely above average!
The staff could be more knowledgeable about the wine though. Both times they offered us wine from bottles that had been open already for two days. When we pointed that out to the staff it wasn't a problem and they poured us a glass from a fresh bottle. We weren't too impressed with the desserts either. When you order the ice cream, you get two plain half scoops only. It tastes alright, but 6 USD for this dessert is way overpriced.
We paid 70 USD for two people for two glasses of wine, two main courses and two desserts. That wouldn't be too bad in Europe, but is definitely expensive for Tanzanian standards.

I live in Stone Town and I went there with a friend to relax for a day off. Menu for lunch offers very little choices and no variety. As prices are quite high, we expected at least something filling and good. What a disappointment when plates arrived. Portions are for a 5 year old child, either for club Sandwich or for salad. Things written on the menu were missing in both of our dishes and sauce for salad was up to you between a bottle of olive oil and/or a bottle of balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Fresh juices are watery. Well, besides all this, food taste is also very poor. I expected from a hotel of this standard to have trained properly few cooks.
I always try to find a nice side on a disappointing experience. There...I couldn't.
Location of the restaurant is quite enjoyable and the swimming pool looks gorgeous.
Nevertheless, it is not enough to me to go back there.

Based on the TripAdvisor reviews we went to fisherman local for dinner. We ordered a grilled dorado and grilled tuna, after asking what the catch of the day had been. The fish was fresh, well prepared and tasty, though it lacked some seasoning. All fish is served with rice, fries and vegetables. The latter one comprised 3 slices of tomato, which was a bit disappointing. As we paid 5 dollars per dish, our meal had great value and you probably can't expect more for this price.

Kendwa rocks is on the north of the island. You can either stay there or take a taxi in the morning to spend your day there. The journey from Stone Town takes about 1,5 hours, but you will have a great time when you get there. You will be asked to pay $10 in advance, which you can use towards your bill. The beach is great. They offer full moon parties one Saturday per month. There is also happy hour , drinks on discounted prices. My best thing here was their lobster, great taste and big portions. Free wifi available.

Great views and nice food, but the cocktails aren’t very nice. Happy hour from 5pm-8pm is $5usd per drink, or buy 3 get 4th free. You’re better off walking to the next hotel area to the deck (ocean group hotel) for cocktails for 5000tzs during their happy hour. Their cocktails were much better.

Really lovely and accommodating staff. Excellent food, drinks and great selection on the menu. Food came super quickly. Speedy wifi. All in all a comfortable rooftop restaurant, with a nice view of the sea. There was also the option to dine more traditionally by sitting on cushions around one of the floor tables! Not the cheapest place to eat in the area but definitely worth an extra few pounds.
