My SO enjoys the coffee and breakfast here weekly, but I guess my coffee palate is numbed by Starbucks. It's a great little place (if a little slow) for a cup and a snack, cozy and in-town convenient by yourself or with a group of friends. I've heard they host game nights which sound fun but I haven't attended any.

Mimi's

Reviewed By paauilojo - Paauilo, Hawaii

On our way back from Raystown Lake we stopped at Mimi's. No reservation on a Friday night, but we were there early (5:30 ish) and got a seat right away. H had a martini and he was pleased. I ordered mussels, clam chowder, salad with raspberry vinaigrette. H had clam chowder and salmon. There were over a dozen mussels in a delicious broth, with lots of bread to soak up the yumminess. Unfortunately 5 of the mussels didn't open, they didn't really matter because there were so many, but they should have been pulled from the plate before serving.

The clam chowder was very satisfying and lots of clam. The bowl and the mussels were my meal!

The salad was ho-hum. I am used to very free produce for salad, and these leaves were a bit tired. A cold bath probably would have woken them up. Don't know about the raspberry vinaigrette. i was expecting tart (singer?) and a light dressing with a touch of raspberry, the dressing was a thick really syrupy super sweet not-anything-I-expected mess. To be fair I ordered it again at another place, and it was the same. Do NOT order.

The meal was very filling, and actually I didn't really need the salad. But felt compelled to take it with me, and promptly threw it away.

But it was a great stop. And service is excellent, and the folks all very nice.

I came across this bakery a few times while visiting a friend in the area, and I had a taste for a cupcake. The store is really neat and clean and the selection of cupcakes are decent. They claim to make their cupcakes fresh daily..and the day old ones are still sold...at 50% off (and they were fresh) I selected the discounted ones and chose lemon, double chocolate, and German chocolate. I had a lemon and the German chocolate, and will say that they were DELICIOUS. Unlike other bakeries I've been too..these were not overly sweet at all..and I could actually taste lemon and chocolate. They also sell "old fashioned" candy and a wide variety of chocolates. Be sure to pay visit to get your cupcake fix. Oh, and they do sheet cakes, cake logs, and other specialties as well.

One of the only DQs we've ever seen that closes up come Labor Day, only to reopen on or about the spring opener of Turkey season. Now, to be clear ... the DQ buster bars and custard are equal to any we've ever had. No worse, no better. The place is very awkward and dangerous driving in and out of their lot. There is no place to sit down. And it closes up about 9 or 10 in the evening. It is what it is. But if you don't like the sounds of this place, don't sweat it. There's another one about 8 or 9 miles further down Rt. 22. Wait ... safer, better, can go in and sit down if you wish.
