It is located approximately 40 kilometers east of Frankfurt am Main, between the Vogelsberg mountains and the Spessart range at the river Kinzig. It is one of the eleven towns (urban municipalities) in the district. Gelnhausen has around 22,000 inhabitants.

I met Carl the original owner when I was stationed in Gelnhausen back in 1986 with the US Army, unfortunately he was not around for my visit. I used to sit and listen to the stories by the older men in the bar.
This hotel bar/restaurant has been around for the longest time and is a meeting place for those who lived "in the day".
Situated in the heart of the Gelnhausen Old City, a great launching place to discover the Barbarossa City.
One of Europe oldest streets is around the corner as well as the church that towers over the city, built in the 13 century, truly amazing.
Take some time and check out the Cemeteries, the towers, walled parts of the city still standing and the nooks and crannies of the old city...look at the doors on the houses above the city center and notice how they are only about 5 feet high, gives an idea of how old they are...pure history.
If Carl is still around, he can tell you of the hey day and the US Army days, if not some of the guests will have something to say.
A great little gem!

I ordered the Schweinnemedallion mit Covadore when visiting Gelnhausen. This food was so good and reminded me of my grandma's (Oma's) home cooking. It came with a side of spaetzel that was perfect. Service was friendly and atmosphere outside was amazing!

A must go place in Gelnhausen !
I went for a family member's birthday dinner arranged here. I have to say I was extremely pleased and surprised at the level of service, taste of the food and the care taken in presentation at this restaurant.
I heard the place has a new owner / chef. I don't know this person but what I can tell from the food is that he really does care and take pleasure in making delicious food !
Our special dinner was opened with garten fresh veggies+greens. Then followed the baerlauch soup with salmon. - this was one of the best soup I have had in recent times - Super.
Our main course was a calb fillet - a wow. People generally say that Germany has below par fillet compared to USA. But this fillet was excellent and cooked just right ! Two thumbs up for this chef.
The dessert was indeed a perfect touch for a happy belly ! A assortment of house made Tiramisu, Erdbeere, 2 pastries and some fruits beautifully combined.
Ambiance: The place has a old cellar feel just like the name a cozy old castle style building lighting is as well just right.
If you are anywhere near Gelnhausen... Do not miss a dinner here. Bravo to the chef from my happy belly !

Having lived in the region East of Frankfurt for over 55 years, we finally managed to sample the Restaurant "Zur Krone" in Höchst by Gelnhausen. My friend Achim Günther from Günther BMW always spoke very highly of this hidden gem.
The photos express our delight in a pretty good way. Service, ambience and the various dishes simply resulted in more than satisfied patrons.
Whoever is looking for something special away from the big cities but still close enough this restaurant is 5 star plus.
100% worth a go.....just pace yourself and keep some space for the Deserts on offer.

my host took me to this place, did not know what to expect but it was nice. Outdoor Seating area in this weather was perfect. service is with a smile and reasonably swift. Selection of meals is not to wide but I can recoomend the burger I had. Value for money is OK.

Overall a very pleasant experience. Exceptionally great customer service, the bone-in lamb (in German "Lamb Karree") I had was nothing short of incredible. If you can get a table, you can't go wrong here. In the greater Frankfurt region, this is a new personal favorite. Can't wait to come back :)

Der Mittagstisch ist sehr abwechslungsreich und immer ein vollwertiges phänomenales Essen wo das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt .
Nicht zu übertreffen jedoch sind die liebevoll hergerichteten Buffetts. Im Sommer hatte ich eine Gartenfeier mit 60 Gästen und ein mediterranes Buffett vom Feinsten alles frisch zubereitet + frisch gegrillte Fisch und Fleischsorten. Heute war ich eingeladen bei der das Buffett wieder vom Restaurant Mittelpunkt geliefert wurde und es war wiedermal genial. Verschiedene Vorspeisen mit Datteln,Ziegenkäse,Trüffel.... Eine Fischplatte wie man sie nicht mal am Mittelmeer bekommt. Einfach gigantisch und nur zu empfehlen.P.S. auch auf Allergien wird eingegangen und es gibt immer eine Möglichkeit etwas leckeres zum Essen zu finden.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel owner. The menu is authentic Greek and some of the best you will ever eat outside of Greece. I will warn English speaking visitors that the menu is completely in German and most of the staff do not speak English. We were fortune to get Milena as our waitress, the only person who could speak English. Also, they are one of the few restaurants in Gelnhausen that take credit cards. It was such a good experience that we ate here two nights in a row.
