Stopped off en route from Dublin to West Cork and was looking for breakfast. Surprisingly there didn't seem to be too many options but we saw Annie's was very busy so we dropped in. Quickly became apparent why it was so busy......serious Irish breakfast with great very pleasant service and all for €6.50........... well worth a visit!

We’d not expected to be eating out that Wednesday evening but some friends from Rome, retired back to Fermoy almost 20 years ago, had insisted that we share a meal before heading to Cork for the night. They offered Italian cuisine, and we couldn’t refuse. We have them to thank for introducing us to the Café Bella.
The restaurant is to one side of the long narrow but busy McCurtain street – cars in a continual stream heading south out of town or further into Market Square and the bridge crossing the Blackwater to the northern part of town. It was 20.30 and there were few people walking the streets when we arrived. We parked right outside. The Bella Café extends over two stories, and projected a welcome beacon of light on to the dark pavement.
Enter the restaurant and there is a reception counter on the RHS and, to the left, a small dining space with four tables and Seating for a dozen people. Kitchen and services to the rear take up most of the ground floor. There is also a small service centre at the rear on the first floor. Like most other diners that evening we headed up the stairs – to the right of reception – and were offered a table next to the windows with views back into the street.
There was Seating for around 50 – at wooden tables with wooden benches that gave the dining room a sort of rustic veneer. A couple of tables were already occupied and, including the four of us – two couples, there were about a dozen people in the restaurant. It was quiet.
We – the four of us - couldn’t remember when we’d last shared a meal – but it would definitely have been Italian (and in Rome) – and thus the pleasure of doing much the same at an ‘Italian’ table in southern Ireland. Service was prompt and friendly. We’d brought out own bottle of red wine, asked for it be opened, and raised glasses to the four of us to celebrate the delight of distant friends meeting up in unexpected places.
We shared a couple of starters – bruschetta Italia and spicy chicken wings – whilst the mains were prepared – sirloin steak, pollo Milano, pollo fantasia and – the only real Italian plate at our table – penne arrabbiata. And, whilst this was as spicy as expected (all those chillies & peppers), it came mixed with chicken pieces - now that was an interesting variation. But, then, pasta arrabbiata is always welcome on a cold evening. Servings were plentiful and presented well.
Time was strictly limited and we had to be on the road to Cork that night for an early morning flight the next day – and we still had to find the place that we’d booked close to the airport. There was little time to enjoy the delights of a slow meal, and we shared coffee instead of dolce before leaving.
The meal was good value at a little over €70 – starters €3.00-5.50, mains €13.50-16.00 meats/vegetables and pasta €9.00, coffees €2.00 (prices rounded). So, about €17/person.
The toilet was on the ground floor next to reception. It was clean and serviceable. Perhaps unique too - given the small size of the cubical/room - you could cover all the different requirements seated – such was the skill with which the builders had found space for the toilet bowl, wash basin, soap dispenser and hand drying unit. Hmmm, interesting.

Very impressed with this little cafe, lovely homemade food at a great price. Great variety. Stopped here for lunch had soup Sandwich coffee and nice cream donut afterwards. Young girl serving was very pleasant and professional. Will defo go back

Went with high hopes as some reviews were very good.
The staff were good and attentive.
The problem started when the food came out, it was absolutely awful the sauce was like water the meat hadn't been marinated and tasted of nothing it wasn't even seasoned no salt or pepper never mind anything else.
We asked the waiter and he had no answer just smiled and shrugged.
If you want food that tastes of Nothing this is the place to go if you enjoy dining out Don't go here it's absolutely awful.

As I say in the title, I was disappointed when I visited here recently as the standards have dropped appreciably in recent years. Normally competition drives standards forwards but it seems that Hong Kong has taken a nose dive since the opening of the China Dragon which, though considerably smaller, produces a much higher standard of food.

We had a magnificent meal. Two 12 ounce ribeye steaks chargrilled nicely presented with a choice of potatoes together with two glasses of wine all for an unbelievable two for the price of one meal deal. Staff are lovely. We will gladly travel from Cork to Fermoy again for this treat. We spent €34 Euro total , fabulous.

Have to admit a bit of bias here - Fermoy is my hometown and this is usually where we go for our take-away treats at weekends. That said, I can unhesitatingly recommend China Dragon as offering decent Asian cuisine at great value prices. What I particularly like about the place is that when you collect an order, you'll usually find a couple of cans of soft drinks, prawn crackers and sometimes even a portion of chicken wings are added as a 'thank you' for your custom. As for the food - expect decent quality and pretty generous portions with prices that are very easy on the wallet. Our children love the sweet and sour dishes while I vary between the excellent chow mein, chicken in black bean sauce or the Szechuan chicken. Never had a bad meal here yet - and it is one of the few places where the entire family are happy to order from.

Amber Service Station is just off Junction 14 on the M8 Dublin to Cork Motorway, our fresh food deli boasts a wide range of choice from salads, sandwiches & panini's to made to order pizza and hot food. We also have a Hillbilly's restaurant on site. Treat yourself on your journey to some of our delicious home made cakes & pastries and an artisan coffee.

Good selection of food, nice staff, and at a very reasonable price. Only down-sides are the little milk just left on tables for tea/coffee could be contaminated by anyone throughout the day, and also it can be very busy at times - a victim of it's own success I suppose.
