We had a great lunch in their screened patio on a dock overlooking the river. The setting was delightful. Everyone except me had shrimp - blackened, grilled, or fried. They were all well pleased. I had the fried grouper and it was delicious. The best part was yet to come...dessert. The key lime pie was stunning. The crust was great and the filling was creamy, rich, and oh so flavourful. This pie can often be too sweet, but here it was not. The meal was reasonably priced and what a great treat to have such fresh seafood.

We stopped at the Havana cafe coming from the Florida keys and going to Fort Meyers beach. The little detour was really worthwhile. We had three different scampi dishes, all three were very good with portions justifying the price. The pick and peel was my favorite. The terras is cosy and the ambiance relaxed, staff do their best to serve even when super busy.

We were on a road trip visiting the Everglades National Park and it was lunch time pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I googled restaurants and this place got pretty good ratings. Sometimes these local places can be pretty good. Upon entering the door the waitress motioned for us to sit on what appeared to be cut up church benches in the back and informed us to look at the menu on the chalk board as you walk in. She also told us they were out of frog legs and Lima bean soup which was ok with us. There were plastic 2L drink bottles cut into interesting designs with things such as plastic limes in them hanging from the ceiling. (Very quaint) my husband had the fried alligator and I had the blue crab sandwich with fries. Alligator was ok, husband said it tasted like fried steak, my sandwich was delicious with a huge crab cake lettuce and tomato. We let the waitress talk us into trying the key lime pie which was disappointing, did not have hardly any lime taste to it. Also be aware that the waitress added a 20% tip to the ticket (which she explained upon bringing the ticket) Overall it was pretty good even though the key lime pie was quite disappointing, very quaint atmosphere.

I have been to City Seafood more times than I can count over many years. I keep returning because they have fresh Florida seafood that is cooked to perfection.

That said, it is not fancy, you order and pay at the counter and wait outside for your # to be called.
Paper baskets, plastic forks and knives. Outside seating on picnic tables, some covered some not.

I've never had a bad meal and I've never received friendly service. All the cooks and staff seem tired of serving the tourist crowd but if you tell them City Seafood is the best you may get a smile and thank you.

Like I said, I go for the seafood, not fine dining or friendly service

Rod and Gun Club

I have not had good food at the Rod and Gun Club. However, we frequently take visitors here to eat key lime pie (average) and coffee as the 'entrance fee' to looking around the bar and restaurant. It is extremely interesting and historic. Presidents and famous people have stayed, fished, hunted here. They have hateful signs out telling you not to come in unless you intend to eat there....which is ridiculous. I mean really, how many people drive to or through Everglade City anyway? You would think they would be overjoyed to have people come and look around, but no......
Sitting out on the giant old veranda and having a bit over-priced key lime pie and average coffee is a small price to pay for looking around.

We were driving from Bradenton to Deerfield Beach and wanted to stop for an airboat ride so while we waited for the boarding time of our Captain Jack's boat we popped here for lunch. The two people serving were really friendly and helpful. Their preparation of the subs they made was meticulous. I had a foot long Turkey breast which was toasted and had a 'medium' drink with it - medium where I'm from (London UK) would normally be a good size but not too big but this drink was HUGE. A perfect thirst quencher. We sat in this small clean oasis of cool calm before going on to our boat ride. There's also a shop / market (small) inside the same room so if you're short of something then you can pick it up there. I know it's just a Subway but it was perfect.

We needed a quick breakfast to go and Subway is the closest thing to fast food in the Everglades. There are always healthy options at a bargain price, We got a little bonus this early morning when a smiling face greeted us and reminded us even though it was early, it was a great day!! Let's not add the fast food world to the Everglades!

Ok, we were a group of nine , but were seated without question for lunch. It was fairly busy but not full. Over 1hour later still no food.... we had only ordered wraps and pittas. We had to hold and tell our afternoon boat tour we were running late. The average wraps arrived in take out boxes in dribs and drabs, so we could leave. To be fair we did get a large discount.
