My wife and I just returned from a week in Paris. Our expectations were not high for a bar mitzvah celebration with about 30 people of all ages.
We were quite frankly totally thrilled with the food, service, variety of offerings, and ambiance of this awesome discovery.
We enjoyed the flat-iron steak and accompanying potato a gratin side, the "tree" of multi-flavored pastry delights, the eggplant parmegianna that no one could finish there was so much but that all took home to prolong the experience.
This place reminded us of Aubergene which we had visited with all eleven of the "marching Griswolds" with its friendly service and food that rivaled any we had savored in St. Martin, New Orleans, Las Vegas, New York, St. Barts, and, yes, even in Paris. We can hardly wait for them to open up a new location in Livingston, NJ, a bit closer to our chateau off exit 137.

A Taste of Greece

Reviewed By Elaina S - New York

This was my third time dining at TOG. This visit I dined with 7 friends for a birthday dinner and we got to try a bunch of things. We actually ordered way too much food! We had two orders of the meatballs which were very tasty, but a little too greasy for me. We also had two orders of pan fried eggplant which I would go so far to say is the best eggplant I have ever had! We ordered zucchini cakes as well which were also quite yummy. The appetizers are a nice portion size so next time we would only need one eggplant, and one meatball. There were leftovers to take home. I tried a lemon chicken soup which was also tasty, but I was hoping for lentil instead. We ordered a Greek salad and a horitaki salad both which very good, but we definitely didn't need them amongst our 5 plates of appetizers. For dinner were were all so full, but everyone enjoyed gyros (most were packed to go after a few bites) and I had a lamb shish platter. The lamb wasn't as good as the previous time I ordered it. This time it was slightly more overcooked than I would like, but still enjoyable. I highly recommend giving this place a try! Everything is good, fresh, and flavorful!

The coffeehouse has a variety of moderately priced options -- a crepe with coffee runs between $8.50 and $10.45 -- in a setting inspired by traditional European coffeehouses and creperies.Opening a coffeehouse was a dream for Sogno co-owner Alissa Vitale and coffee/culinary expert John Vitale from the time they met. After the couple got married last year, the components of what would become Sogno -- Italian for "dream" -- began to come together when they went on their honeymoon in Paris and Tuscany.Sogno's one-of-a-kind coffee roaster, hand-built by the same father-and-son team of steel workers who built separation systems for Starbucks, also took some time to prepare. I visited Sogno Coffee House with my Mom for some light fare since it was between lunch and dinner. I ordered the espresso infused cannoli crepe and my Mom ordered the apple cinnamon honey walnut crepe. I also got the green tea frappe.

The food was Excellent! The flavors were intense and fresh and just wonderful all around. My frappe too was exactly what I was hoping it would be.

The service was good and the decor offers a nice setting.

Bacari Grill Restaurant

Reviewed By Cynthia F - Fair Lawn, New Jersey

Enjoyed everything I ordered, but can't wait to try other dishes as well.

Our server Stephanie is excellent, attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu.

I loved the crispy crackers in the bread basket. Reminded me of melba toast but fresher, crisper and tastier. Fantastic accompaniments--sundried tomato butter, and jalapeno jelly. Outstanding.

Enjoyed the Bacari salad, but I should mention that I ordered my dressing on the side, and I substituted the sweeter dressing that normally accompanies the Autumn salad. Good size; not too big, not too small. With so many sushi restaurants in Bergen County switching to iceberg lettuce (to save money?), it was a pleasure to be served a mix of dark greens.

I enjoyed the maki combo but asked them to pack one of the rolls to go, since I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it anyway. Both the raw salmon and the raw tuna in the rolls was very fresh. It's a pleasure to have found a restaurant where I can order sushi and the hubby can order other things.

For dessert, my husband and I shared both the bourbon-pecan bread pudding and the sticky toffee pudding cake. Both were served with high-quality vanilla ice cream. The toffee cake was our favorite and I can't wait to return to Bacari and order it again. I am a big fan of toffee cake and am not aware of any other restaurants near home that offer it.

I should also mention that the night before my husband and I visited Bacari, I participated in an office party in their upstairs party room. The buffet was excellent; everyone enjoyed the food and commented on what a wide variety of choices there was, and the service was incredibly good.

Cinar Turkish Restaurant

Reviewed By SuzeeG2B - Leonia, New Jersey

Came here with no expectations at all and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of everything we had from specialty cocktails to dessert (and we had many). The interior has been renovated from places past. Nice big private room in the back and a large bathroom big enough to ballroom dance in from my perspective. Back to the food. Excellent octopus (which I loved). All the dips were flavorful and freshly prepared. The Cinar Salad was their twist on a classic Shepherds Salad, which was absolutely delightful. Enjoyed lamb & chicken kebabs and lamb meatballs, which looked more like burgers (and oh so moist and delicious). I am now a huge fan . Turkish coffee and a traditional dense milk dessert rolled in cinnamon, baklava and their rendition of rice pudding, which is more pudding than rice were all quite pleasant. Worth a try. I think even the most basic diner could discover something to enjoy here. String beans, carrots and roasted potatoes, which came with entrees exceeded expectations. Enjoy

Jack's Cafe

This is a real foodie place. It's an old-fashion diner type place aesthetically, but beyond that....food, excellent food, and more excellent food. You go here for the food. Period. It's no frills, nice music, rock and roll theme, but it's all about the food.

The menu is a bit eclectic ranging from a delicious chicken salad, to a veal special, to a pasta, to a hanger steak, lobster bisque, a lobster roll, short-rib ravioli, and more. There's excellent flavor and taste in everything -- and the flavor is just layered into all of the ingredients. You get all of the nuances of taste and flavor.

Last time I was there, I had crab bisque -- done perfectly. Excellent flavor, perfect consistency, not to pastey or thick, and not thin or watery. Loaded with crab, vegetables, and whatever else they use. I then moved on to a short-rib ravioli, topped off with some hanger steak. I can't say enough -- taste, in each of the ingredients, all of the flavor profile, coming through -- just excellent.
