Visited on Friday night for a friends retirement celebrations. There was quite a wait before we were asked for our drinks order and when we asked for olives, the half empty bowl was just topped up. Meal was well cooked. Traditional home cooking and good choice. However this who ordered roast beef were surprised it came with a jacket potato rather than roast potatoes. Restaurant very quirky and comfortable. Whilst I enjoyed the food it didn’t wow me and I was disappointed after Reading previous ratings.

The good. Interesting menu, well executed and served by pleasant and professional staff. Pub atmosphere with above average food, drink and service. £40/head inc some drinks. + Champagne at £55, bit toppy, but it wasn't compulsory.
Will definitely go again
The not so good. Bit limited for vegetarian's but possible.

A last minute booking for an after movie treat! Set menu for the night with very generous portions. Impressed with atmosphere and service!

We offer cream teas, hot dishes, salads and sandwiches all day, and all freshly prepared to order. It's not 'fast food' and sometimes, especially busy days in the summer, there may be a bit of a wait for the food. It could probably be done quicker, and cheaper, but it wouldn't be as good. Our tea-list is certainly unique - nowhere else in the world are you offered teas from every continent. We're proud that the much-missed Tea Guild, in their final annual awards in April 2013, again gave us an Award of Excellence - the eighth year running, counting the time they declared us the best tea-place in the country. The Times newspaper has listed us in their top 5 places to have tea, and Country Living magazine named us their favourite tearoom. Most recently, in 2015, BBC Good Food magazine listed us among their 10 favourite tea-rooms, so we have a lot to live up to. We keep looking for ways to improve. If you have never been, let's hope you have the opportunity soon. We look forward to seeing old and new friends. Open Wednesday to Sunday, and Tuesdays in the summer, and Bank Holidays.

Queued out the door when we first approached. Shorter queue after a walk but still a wait for a table, reflecting its local popularity. After a visit can see why. Excellent afternoon tea served by owner/staff who clearly take huge pride in their business. Impressed with the range of tea. We had their own "builders" tea which hit the spot. My friend had the Devon cream tea which looked great. I had the chocolate dream tea which included a chocolate scone. Never had that before but it was delicious. All scones served warm, straight out the oven. Also enjoyed the funny script on the menu. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.

I had dinner here with friends at their recommendation.
The inn is in the middle of nowhere and I would not have known about it had my friends not visited before. I was blown away by the standard of the food. Everything was brilliantly cooked and was presented well. The starter was a highlight for me - a breaded egg, soft in the middle, with samphire and lightly pickled vegetables over a sumptuous, rich pate.
My main course and dessert were both delicious although a little hard to eat - the partridge due to it being served whole (which wasn't a fault of the restaurant at all, just made for tricky eating) and the dessert was served in a tall glass. I feel that the dessert would have been better served differently although it was sublime!
Very reasonably priced for the quality and I would definitely visit again.

Have been coming here for many years and whatever we have meets expectations. Eating out does not always have to be of a different cuisine. Portions are just right and quality good. If you are looking for homemade this is the place. Staff always friendly and efficient.

Came here for what was supposed to be (according to T/A reviews) a very good curry, well we had popadums and pickle tray to start, followed by garlic chillie chicken tikka and chicken dopiaza with nan and fries. My chicken was as gungy and tough as Urrrrggh (see photos) the curry had no sauce whatsoever, atleast the nan and fries were nice. Once we had finished we were approached by the waiter asking us to move so a party of four could sit at our table "WHAT" how rude, just so they could make a few more Bob. We paid and left NEVER to return.

Stopped in Saturday afternoon for a drink,
Friendly staff but £4.50 for a pint of Carling? Really? £3.10 down the other end of the high street. No wonder one was full and the other empty!
Asked if they do bar snacks, was given a menu where the cheapest item was a Sandwich for nearly £9!?!?
I politely declined.
One to avoid, much better places in Ely with more realistic prices.

Pleasant clean cafe with breakfast and lunch menu. Easy access on one level. Clean loos. Swift service. Food well cooked and as described. Expensive for what you get. Not very many vegetarian /vegan options. Pittas and humous, eggs on toast and one coffee = £13+. Farm shop disappointing. Clearly a large number of imported items.

Wonderful tea room in the beautiful city of Ely. I go here often for coffee and cake with friends, family or on my own! Wide selection of teas, coffees, cakes and light bites. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help. The only thing is that it can get very busy at times and as the tea room is quite small it can get claustrophobic and loud! A must visit in Ely.
