This seemed to be the best restaurant open on this Tuesday evening in September in the centre of Grazalema. The food and service were excellent and it wasn't at all expensive for the quality. We would go again.

Food very good and reasonable. Nice atmosphere with Sylvia really exerting an influence. I don't think it's a coincidence that the last reviewer went when they'd recently taken over the business and Sylvia had recently given birth.
Don't know about wine prices as I stuck to beer so check before ordering

We were recommended this restaurant by the owners brother as the restaurant we went to was closed the next night.
Great ambiance. Fire burning was welcome on cold and second night raining night. The menu for €13 is extremely good and great local treats. The asparagus soup and cream of verduras. My husband then had wild boar and second night entrecôte de venison, homemade postres he chose three chocolate tart, wine and bread. I had the entrecôte de Venison both nights, a treat away from the coast. It was the best I have eaten, thin tender tasty pieces. Our friend had grilled cod first night and lamb chops the second.
Everything was good. Service was attentive but not rushed. Excellent food and price.

Had planned to eat lunch at the place a few feet away but saw this place had a nice dia offering. I started with a great revuelto with sausage and potatoes followed with an excellent grilled fish. Chocolate cake, a glass of very nice local wine, fresh bread and very friendly service were also included. English not spoken but the young lady went out of her way to make sure we were satisfied. Our bill totaled 16 euro for two. You can not do much better anywhere. We have found this quality and pricing in many of the hill towns not overrun with tourists.

Cerveceria El Gallo

Reviewed By MPD357 - Adelaide, Australia

Zahara de la Sierra restored our faith in Spanish towns - charming, whitewashed, clean and fresh. For more than 150 years in the 14 and 15th centuries it stood on the old mediaeval frontier facing off against Christian Olvera. The sparkling town overlooks ancient, weathered landscapes with stunted olive trees clinging to the skeletal soils under over-hanging cliffs. Surprisingly, these Mountains have one of Spain's highest rainfalls, which may help explain their apparent over-grazing and subsequent reservation as a natural park
After our steep walk up to the main plaza to leave behind any tourists along the mirrador with lake views we were quite hot so settled on a wine barrel out front of Cerveceria El Gallo for drinks, moving onto one under an umbrella when that barrel was free
We enjoyed 2 well prepared and presented racione - small stuffed quid and tender pork slices, served by a pleasant waiter. By then the whitewashed walls were pulsating and the heat was starting to take effect
The appeal of the afternoon siesta was ever present, but we had to head south and upwards along precipitous hairpins to the Puerto de las Palomas 1,350 m above sea level, so said our goodbyes

Wonderful Terrace overlooking the lake, serving contemporary Andalucian cuisine with a focus on local produce, organic wherever possible, vegetarian choices, home made desserts and a winelist filled with regional and other Spanish wines. Daily Specials board with salads, fresh fish and barbecued meats in summer, in winter braised and roasted meats and locally caught game. Lunch and dinner aswell as tapas and cakes.

A lovely spot - overlooking the lake in Zahara.
The service was superb, very friendly and welcoming. We had the hot tapas to start which was good, but we have been spoiled with some outstanding tapas on this trip. The main courses were first class however - the venison was perfect with a great vegetable Ragu. The entrecôte was delicious.
Thank you for a great meal!

El Asturiano

We have been passing through the town looking for lunch. According to Google the place should have been closed, but it was open and buzzing with locals due to the festivities on May 26th. We decided for a salad with goat cheese, mushrooms and bacon, and half a portion of fried chicken and pork with pepper sauce. The salad was properly sized and cheap at €4,50. When the meats arrived, we first thought the waitress didn't hear the half-sized. But as it turns out, the portions are just generally large. We paid €16,60 with two cokes.
The only negative point are the fries, which were a bit dull. But as we didn't expect them anyway and ordered the salad instead, it was fine.
