Manning Farm Dairy

Reviewed By StoneyEnd - CT

Mannings has a few strip mall store fronts strategically located through the Scranton area, as well as the 'parent' dairy farm. They sell good stuff at fair prices. They are worth a visit, even a modest detour and a are a great road trip stop or 'local' flavor when visiting the area.

Since each location is a little different accurate generalizations on the facilities are not easy other than the are usually clean cool and convenient. As appropriate to old fashion type ice cream dairy stores, a Mannings is usually a happy place. Who can be mad while anticipating or eating the delicacy of such a treat. Sure the decor is plain...just clean and functional...it's all about the ice cream...oh, and excellent milk too.

Not to be redundant again BUT the ice cream is excellent. That in itself is good enough to warrant a visit. As a bonus, service is usually provided cheerfully and with a smile, even when servers are backed up with a line of eager waiting customers who listen, observe, and perhaps change their minds on which of the many delectable offerings to try. It's part of the mystique ... the ice cream is worth the wait. It's even reasonably priced. Servings are generous...what's not to like?

A few stores are pretty convenient to Interstates and thus good candidates for planning a break from a long hot drive...but be aware they (well most..we haven't been to all of them yet) don't have public rest rooms. A winning strategy might be to combine a restaurant stop followed by Mannings...but some would argue why bother with a restaurant. Only you can decide.

Besides the storefronts, there is also a farm (where the moo cows live...) that has a retail outlet. The best bet is to search for their web site and find one near where you are or plan to be.

Yummy....

The coffee is good here, yes. The baked items, so-so. Since the new owners took over , it definitely went down hill. They used to have better pastries, baked specialities. Now, it's your usual pound cake, perhaps a muffin or so, and the bland old chocolate chip cookies, with a few scones thrown in. Nothing new, nothing special.
I ordered a burrito with cheese.
It was a burrito with cheese.
Canned beans. That's it.
It was cold , after I asked the counter girl to heat it up, she rudely responded to her coworker under her breath , that she JUST heated it up.
The burrito was $8. Way overpriced for what it was. That was unnecessary.

Would I recommend this place?
If you are prepared to spend a lot of money for mediocre food.

My husband and I stopped here for my birthday lunch. We had never heard of the restaurant but saw positive reviews. What a mistake.
Cheap, fried, bar food... No entrees available until after 4 pm.
So we ordered the shrimp & crab dip which was literally, white queso/cheddar Velveeta melted with a little Old Bay seasoning with the most laughably small shrimp scattered in it. It was truly nauseating. Someone need to Google a recipe for crab dip. Cream cheese, a little mayo, it's not complicated and this place has serious nerve passing off that garbage as acceptable.
The fried shrimp tasted like old cooking oil.
The place was loud, dark, and full of people who obviously don't know what good food is.
On the up side, the waitress was polite.
Other than that, disgusting.
My husband was apologizing to me about how awful it was - though it was not his fault.
We will never make that mistake again. Gross.

I get it...they're hand made & the chocolate is delicious. But I can't tell you the number of times I've been in line with other customers who place their order and then their eyes pop out of their head when they're told the total price of the 1-2 lbs. of "chocolate" they've ordered. Honestly; give me a Hershey's with almonds in my Easter basket and I'm content!

Read reviews and saw the place rated "#2 in Dunmore" so gave it a go: DISAPPOINTED! Food fairly tasteless and soggy, pasta a bit overcooked, atmosphere so-so. Perhaps on Sunday night, the restaurant was staffed with junior team, but the meal was lackluster and not worth a re-visit.

Visited Posh on a recent trip to visit our kids at the U of S. From the moment we entered to when we left the entire meal experience was excellent. We were promptly seated and after a few minutes the owner came over to welcome us and introduce himself. We proceeded to order wine (very good selection at different prices) and a few shareable appetizers. The cauliflower bites and crudités were excellent. All of us also enjoyed the wonderful pretzel bread bites. Very tasty and unique. All 5 of us ordered different mains from osso bucco to filet mignon to lobster special to ahi tuna and chicken. Everything was served expeditiously but not rushed. Presentation was wonderful and more importantly very good. Also the portions are very large; definitely good leftovers. We also ordered a few desserts to share which were outstanding. Through out our dining experience another manager checked up on us to see how things were going. Overall this first visit to Posh was memorable, with great service, and more importantly excellent food. Do not hesitate to try Posh or go back for another worthy dining experience. I know we’ll be back.
