Where to Eat in Cumberland: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 14, 2018 Misti Hsu

At the base of the Appalachian Mountains in Allegany County, Maryland, the city of Cumberland has been a military outpost manned by George Washington, a shipping hub, a manufacturing capital and "The Gateway to the West." Head to the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and explore the same paths taken by early American pioneers. A ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad carries visitors back to the golden age of rail, chugging past stunning mountain scenery in vintage train cars.

A great find in the middle of Cumberland, quaint and cozy.
We always have a great meal, nice wine and tasty desert.
Serving portions are quite generous, half servings are available on some.
We always share salad and desert
The bread and dipping oil is so good that you might just eat way too much of it
The service is fantastic and they always make you feel like family.
Reservations are suggested for Fri or Sat.

My husband and I walked here for dinner after a suggestion by our hotel staff. The service was wonderful! I had a chicken Caesar salad that was dressed perfectly....not too much dressing. The menu noted that all salads are served in a fried tortilla shell. I asked that mine just be on a plate which was no problem. The grilled chicken was delicious. My husband ordered a burger and fries. His burger was a hand formed patty that was fresh and delicious. The roll was ver fresh as well. The fries were pretty good. Our meals and two ice teas cost us a whopping $23! I would recommend this restaurant for great service and delicious fresh food!

You first need to know to go to the counter to order. I had the Cajun Slam bowl. Absolutely nothing Cajun tasting about it. My spouse had the egg sandwich. Nothing remarkable. Maybe a step up from McDonalds but a lot more expensive. The upstairs looked nice but I saw tables unbussed for the complete time we were there.

We stopped in for dinner after noticing this restaurant as we drove by on I-68. Everything was just right. We don't drink alcohol, so can't comment on wine, but the food was great. I had lasagne with Manhattan clam chowder; my companion had a margherita pizza and salad. The decor is nice, service was attentive. It would be enjoyable to come back for another meal.

The staff here at this little tucked in the wall pizzeria is great! If you like spicy this is the place to go. I recommend the buffalo chicken pizza and the cannon fries. I eat here often for lunch and dinner. The only cons ....its a little bit more expensive than other pizza shops and sometimes it takes a while to get your food. But once you get your food it's very good.. yumy

Stopped here for dinner while traveling on I-68. Our party of three had mixed reviews on the dining experience here. Overall, it had a very non-descript, average feel; no great curb appeal. Fairly typical, American menu. The bacon cheeseburger was very tasty (presentation not appealing); fries less than average. Grilled chicken salad was good, but the greens were not of the best quality. The winner of the evening was the chicken pot pie; a very good choice and presented well (not the best I've had, but very delicious nonetheless). At this point I would rate our experience as three "stars" however, the outdoor dining deck and the service from our waitress notched our overall experience to 4 "stars". While the view from the deck isn't the greatest (other than the nice mountain ridge in the distance) we really enjoyed being on the covered deck. Emily, our waitress, did an excellent job taking care of us, from answering our menu questions, modifying an order, keeping our drinks filled, and having a friendly demeanor. Decent beer selection, including Loose Cannon IPA from Heavy Seas Beer in Baltimore. Patrick's is not located in downtown Cumberland. Travelers exiting I-68 must wind through the unremarkable streets of south Cumberland for a few minutes before arriving. Easy parking onsite. For travelers looking to take a break in Cumberland, Patrick's offers some possibilities for a decent meal.

I've been to a lot of different 'Coney Island' type hot dog places & this one is my hands-down favorite. Everything here is done perfectly...the crinkle-cut fries are always piping hot & crispy, & the blend of mustard/onion/sauce on the dogs is the best. The buns are steamed, so they're not puffy & overwhelming, you get a great taste of the dogs & toppings, not that bready taste that you get at other hot dog places.

Note that they are CASH-ONLY & there is an ATM a block away down across Baltimore street. Long-time fans will be disappointed to hear that the Cherry Smash is no longer available. It gets a little crowded around lunchtime, but note there's a separate room with additional tables.
...oh, and the staff are super-friendly. This place is a must-visit while in Cumberland.

My husband and I are not usually compatible on pizza but at Uncle Jacks he ordered the Chicago and I ordered the New York. We both liked the crust, toppings and sauce and ended up eating too much. Yes the atmosphere was relaxed and the waitress matter of fact but we enjoyed the authentic feel of the place. We went late on a Sunday when there wasn't a crowd.
