La Gloria del Campo

A good alternative to dining out in Lima. About a 30 minute drive south of Lima, it's an opportunity to experience the countryside around Lima as well as to visit the archeological site of Pachacamac. Set among agriculture fields, inspired in Amazon type construction (on high poles, all wooden, all open) it offers a break from city life. Kids will enjoy it, while parents can have a very good meal. The menu is short, with typical peruvian cuisine and some international dishes like pizzas for the less adventurous or for the kids, priced at the the top end. It's all fresh and good, yet its pricing simply doesn't go down well with the environment nor with the typical family occasion that takes most guests here. Note: if you leave after lunch around 15:00, o your way back to Lima you can make it to the archeological site of Pachacamac (closes at 16:30), take a guided tour and take in some great views over the ocean as the sun nears the horizon.

Highly touted restaurant. Found it expensive and average.
I had the opportunity to taste their "Huatia" in Mistura 2010. Nice.
That enticed us to visit the restaurant in Pachacamac.
The premises are nice, but nothing spectacular. Service OK. The menu ranges from 25-45 soles for main dishes. Had the "lechon", which was decent, but could have had it anywhere else for less money, and perhaps even better tasting.
Lacks imagination and fire.

First time visitor, was impressed with everything. We shared paiche, duck with rice and suckling pig. All dishes were tasty and fresh. Suckling pig was best I have had. Tres leches dessert was delicate and moist. Service was friendly and professional. Not cheap but high standard. Will definitely return.

La Ladrillera

If you want to go to a different place, this restaurant is for you. Located outside of Lima, in Cieneguilla, La Ladrillera Restaurant is built in an 80 year old brick factory. It is a good place to get out of the big city and enjoy the nice warm and dry weather of the area. The menu does not have a lot of options, but what we tried was tasty and well cooked. You can notice that they use good and fresh ingredients to prepare their dishes. Our party had kids and they had the chance to play in the small playgroung while we were waiting for our table. To get to this place you need your own transport because it is located in a "little remote" area of Cieneguilla: you need to cross a "dry" river to get there. This is a seasonal restaurant that closes during the rainy season.

La Crocante

Reviewed By Gabriel N - Lima Region, Peru

San Isidro, a residential district of Lima with some areas more densely populated by financial institutions, is expected by Limeans to host sophisticated, high-quality venues for lunch owned by restauranteurs willing to pay the high real estate prices of this part of town. A few days ago, I visited a friend in the area with the idea of having a light lunch at San Antonio Caffe on Amador Merino Reyna Street. Turns out that SAC posted an outdoors sign saying that after 1pm that day they would be closed on the occasion of an anniversary celebration of the restaurant chain. 1pm is lunchtime in Lima, so that was a no go. No worries, my friend recommended that we walk a block around Abtao Park to try La Crocante, the venue I am reviewing now. Unfortunate choice! That was the beginning of a series of hints proving to be my worst lunch experience of the last several years in various countries. Understaffed, undertrained, unresponsive, dismissive rather... Two hours of a cacophonous symphony of the worst combination of New York hip-style dense dinner sitting area and yuppy-crammed take-out lines. Wait and wait and wait. Preferential treatment of some customers over others, without justice. And the salad I had was unremarkable. I don't care about what the food showed me. I care that the golden opportunity for La Crocante that San Antonio Caffe was closed for a few hours proved their test of failure. An insult to commonsense is worse than an insult to good taste. Don't ruin your afternoon with this fiasco.

I have been there alone and I asked for an ice cream and a cup of american coffee. Mrs. owner (I didn't ask for her name) kindly suggested me about a new flavor of ice cream and she let me try it. It was an amazing flavor and I asked for one.
The cup of coffee had been a little bit delayed because suddenly the place was full of people. But then they brought me the coffee and it was hot and good.
The place is comfortable and peaceful.
Prices are standard not so cheap but not so expensive.

I have been there the last holidays in Peru (July) and the place is clean with Playgrounds for kids but the lunch was so expensive!!! One roasted chicken for 120 PEN (40 dollars). It was cold and the pool was cold too. There were kids in the group, so we have had some fruit. They even reproached us about that. They don't have fruit.
Bad experience!!!
