Crabtree's Kittle House Restaurant & Inn

In its history that spans more than 200 years, the Kittle House's timber frame has held many things: a guesthouse, prohibition-era roadhouse, school, inn, and restaurant. The stately Kittle House began humbly in 1790 as a barn on Ivy Hill Farm. The Kittle family named the eponymous barn in the 1880s, when they took over the farm and renamed the future restaurant and inn The Kittle Barn and Carriage House. In 1890, Moses Taylor V purchased the farm and surrounding 500 acres to raise his prize cattle, renaming it Annandale Farm. Following Taylor's death in 1928, the Kittle House began to develop its livelier reputation as a roadhouse. In 1931 the Kittle House took on a primmer role as the Noble School for Girls. Unsuccessful, the school closed after five years, and thus the Kittle House tradition as a restaurant and inn began. Lawrence Farms EastIn 1931 The Kittle House thrived as The Lawrence Farms Inn. The Westchester Playhouse, located on the adjacent property of what is now the Mt. Kisco Country Club, was in its prime. The birthplace of many illustrious careers, the Inn often played host to famous, and soon-to-be-famous, actors, including a young Henry Fonda, Margaret Sullavan and Talullah Bankhead. In 1949 the Inn was sold to William Carlson, who shortened the name to "The Kittle House." Since 1981, the Kittle House has been owned and operated by the Crabtree family, who has returned the House to its former glory through extensive renovations and enhancements, including the beautification of the grounds, the expansion of the Atrium Dining Room, and the transformation of the former stables into an award-winning wine cellar. The most recent and exciting changes at Crabtree's Kittle House include a striking redesign by Christan P. Arkay-Leliever of KMS Team. With a mindful use of ecological materials and thoughtful attention to detail, the House exudes a quiet elegance, befitting its charmed past.

This was, in the day, a tremendous treat. A beautiful venue with great service and food. Unfortunately, all that remains is a decent venue. Although the food is fair, the service has declined markedly with surly waiters and slow delivery. With the price they command, I clearly will not be returning, this after being a several decade long fan. The only good things I can say is the greeters are nice and the owner John is a very nice guy. Sorry to say that is not enough to bring me back

Patisserie/Cafe; unparalleled desserts and confections; excellent informal breakfast/lunch/dinner spot.

Simply delightful - pastries to die for. Great desserts to take home especially if entertaining. You'll wow your guests. Great place for breakfast or lunch, although I was disappointed in the croissant. IT was more like an airy dinner roll made to look like a French croissant, more like something from the supermarket rather than a flaky layered roll. That said, I had a delightful lunch. The soups are terrific.

This is a cozy little place in town. I believe the person who greets you is the owner. He was very friendly and helpful helping us decide what to order. From the soup to the sandwiches which are made out of crepes of course was delicious and tasted like the salad fillings had just been picked from the garden. Great little spot. They also serve many flavors of ice cream here if you want to stop in for a refreshing treat.

On our way to the Jacob Burns Center we decided to trust the TripAdvisor reviews and I'm so glad we did. Really fresh and well prepared seafood, which is hard to find these days.

We had the seafood chowder...with recognizable pieces of shrimp, lobster, scallops, salmon, etc. in a light cream base. You could actually taste the individual pieces of seafood. Delicious. Then the Seafood Appetizer platter. Generous pieces of lobster, shrimp, and sea scollops in a tasty sauce on a bed of corn salsa. Fresh from the grill, well presented, and very flavorful.

And did I mention the bread basket with a selection of bread with crispy flatbread and warm cornbread?

We had the Creme Brûlée for dessert. Beyond good. Maybe the best ever. And a really hot Cappuccino with biscotti.

Truly...it was a superb lunch. What a find!

I got a coupon in the mail for Dunkin' Donuts and decided to take them up on the bargain. Two donuts for $1.39, six donuts for $3.99 A medium coffee and a donut for $1.69. Why not I haven't been having donuts that much recently so once in a while probably doesn't hurt.

Local Ice Cream

Local is a casual cafe. We serve soups, salads and sandwiches with an emphasis on vegetarian foods. We make all our soups and dressings vegan and gluten free. Our ice cream is from SoCo Creamery in the Berkshires and it is absolutely the BEST...We have a great healthy kids menu and we love food. In season, most of our menu items come from organic, local farms and we never serve preservatives or artificial food coloring. We play great music and our staff is super friendly, smart and fun. We have organic coffees and teas. Tons of free parking behind the store.

Took our grandsons there for dinner when we visited them. Just a small local place. Good kids' menu. One grandson had the organic hot dog and the other had the grilled cheese sandwich. My wife tried their homemade soup.

The kids ' meal come with a choice of sides, fruit, carrots or chips & a small milk, organic lemonade or cider .

Quick and reasonable.

Dining in Westchester County can be challenging at times with the vast array of different dining experiences to choose from. We drove to Pleasantville from NYC based on a friends recommendation and we were not disappointed. Their broad menu including specials offered us wonderful choices. While my wife still favored a traditional chicken parm, i favored their orecchiette barese pasta. This followed the Margarita Paste that we shared as an appetizer. Great choices!! You won't be disappointed either.
