Where to Eat in Cassis: The Best Restaurants and Bars

March 18, 2018 Madelene Haan

In the heart of Calanques National Park, Cassis offers visitors a glimpse of life in a quaint Provencal fishing village. Hop on a sightseeing boat to experience the Cassis Calanques by water, or enjoy the turquoise coastline from a pebble beach. There’s much to explore by foot, too. Admire the pastel-colored houses lining the picturesque harbor, drift into the village’s charming shops and cafes, and take in the scenic views of the French Riviera from the many vantage points along the way.

La Villa Madie

"For the ultimate fine French dining experience, you can't go past La Villa Madie restaurant - an offshoot of renowned Chef Dimitri Droisneau. Set on the seaside between the rugged cliffs of Cap Canaille and the Mediterranean sea, this Michelin-starred restaurant boasts stunning sea views, and the Deco-style dining room - with an elegant chocolate and cream colour scheme - has a divine summer Terrace for al fresco dining."

Fine and delicate food overall
Fishes cooked to perfection and tasteful (particularly langoustine), however accompanying "jus" were sometimes wasting the experience (too strong once, too salty another time). Meat was awesome (veal).
Altogether surprisingly not as light as you'd expect it to be, both my wife and I felt somewhat burdened after dinner and in the morning (and this was not due to excess of wine!).
Service was great, but missing genuine warmth? Same with decoration.
Somelier was unimpressive, felt "technical" but not necessarily listening. Proposed white burgundy which tasted great but was too heavy for the meal and temperature of the day.
The location is gorgeous (can't beat that really) and unique, advice is to arrive early in the evening to make the most of it before it gets (all) dark.
Felt quite expensive for the experience in the end (>300€/ person). This, together with the lack of consistency across the whole menu, explain the overall rating.
You can get the same or sensibly better culinary (and service) experience in the area for a more decent spend, though not with the same "by the sea" setting.

We arrived in Marseille and went straight to Cassis for our B&B (Villa Andrea) who recommended this restaurant. It was amazing. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The waiter was able to explain the menu to us (since we don't speak French). The atmosphere was comfortable and quite.

The freshiest of local fish, very reasonably priced, a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, priced very well and do remember to make a reservation!

I loved this restaurant. Too bad that I discovered the last day of my trip, as I would have eaten here multiple times. Their food is typical Provençal, home-style. The portions are generous and everything I tried was delicious. The prices are very good for Cassis. It is a popular spot, full of locals. I recommend to book in advance to ensure you will have a table.

We were a group of 6 and reserved a table inside for Saturday lunch. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, the duck was delicious and everyone thought the food was very good. The staff were eager and attentive and the ambiance all made for a very enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend and look forward to revisiting in the future.

We just returned from an amazing dinner. We loved the pasta, the sauces, the chocolate mousse, the bread...but more than anything we loved our experience with the people. Katharine, the owner, spent so much time in conversation with us. She is truly a special person who we feel fortunate to have hade time with this evening. She and her children exemplify the best of a family business. We will always treasure our time at La Defonce!

ATE with familly, owner very nice, knows and enjoys his job. Good advise on wine. Fish was extra fresh and very well done. If u go there, u won't be disappointed. If it gets full, one owner might have problems to serve all at convenient speed if he got no help.

We were staying in Cassis for four days and found Le Chaudron on the first night. It is not in the best position - i.e. not overlooking the sea-front - but past experience suggests that restaurants in the ideal position don't have to work as hard as those who don't enjoy the best views; this was the case here.
The service, the food, the menu choice were all excellent and so we came back on our last night to experience all over again. Highly recommended

Went here with family. We were the only ones there, so service was ideal. Wine was fantastic, starters are large! They made a big deal over the toddler bringing him his own little plates of things. Only negative is the chairs aren't great for children/toddlers. Boosters would've been great!

A daube is beef cooked so slowly that it metls under your fork, you dont need a knife. An anti daube, such as I was served here, is gristle that has to be sawed into chunks before you can even put it in your mouth and then chew, chew, chew.
Avoid

Based on tripadvisor reviews booked for my wife and daughter midweek for something a bit special. Took the more expensive of the 2 lunchtime menus at 32€ for all 3 of us. The mixed starter was without taste and salmon loaf dry. The main course the ladies took the fresh fish and mushrooms which was overcooked and covered in a sauce making it difficult to see the numerous bones in the filleted fish. I took the ravioli and prawns which turned out to be baked to a crisp and inedible...see photo. The sweets did nothing to rescue the disaster. Avoid like the plague.
