My partner and I decided to stop here for lunch and had delicious fresh North Sea cod beautifully presented followed but baked pineapple with ice cream. An amuse bouchée oyster was given as a starter.. The view from the restaurant over the North Sea added to the ambiance of this beautifully decorated hotel. We sat in the lounge for coffee in front of the fire having it all to ourselves. The only reason I'm not giving "excellent" was the cost of lunch at €90 which was on the high side - you pay for the view and comfortable furnishings. Service was excellent too.

The location is great, no doubt about that. Service was slow and food very far from delicious, just boring and tasteless wannabe "haute cuisine". An oyster "au gratin" may sound like something special. Well, it is something special and might appeal to people who don't like oysters. Likewise the fish was certainly perfect for people who don't like fish. The spinach was perfectly tasteless as well, could have been green water. But we do like oysters as oysters, we like fish and we like vegetables...

We had marvelous pancakes here. The price of the refreshments are reasonable for such a big tourist location and the food is good.
The staff is friendly and quick and are always willing to help.
I would recommend this place for people with young children.
The nice thing about this restaurant is that it has a big outdoor and an indoor playground for children. So if there is a little waiting time it is not a problem for the children because they are out there playing with all the things they have here, and they have a lot of things for the children to enjoy.

We booked the diner as a given bank special arrangement comprising also the Strandhotel overnight. We have been seated with a remark that we are a "bank" arrangement. Therefore, our table, together with other "bank" arrangement quests' tables, was placed along a wall, rather close to each other while other "normal" guests were seated at tables with much more breathing space between. All of us had to arrive at the same, well defined time. The staff provided all necessary explanations about the menu at about the same time to all so that we could easily follow the explanation given to the guests next to us. The food of this 7-courses menu was excellent: inventive, innovative, tasty… as one would expect at this gastronomic level and considering the reputation gained by this place and by its reputed former and present top chefs. As he was just finishing a rather noisy meeting with his staff at one of the nearby tables, he disappeared through the kitchen… we regret he did not find time to shake hands of at least some of his guests…. A matter of marketing… We were seriously puzzled and disappointed by the service. We have been told that the service is by a number of foreign stagiaires, not all of them speaking Dutch. No problem so far, of course. For the wines, we decided to go for the wine arrangement but we asked to replace for my partner the white wines by red wines. "No problem" was the reply in English to our questions formulated in Dutch. To avoid any linguistic problem, we repeated our request in English and the reply was confirmed: "no problem". When the first glass of white (!) wine arrived for my partner, we stress we asked for red wine but were told that it is impossible, the (seriously priced) wine arrangement is fixed and may not be modified. My partner though she will well survive one glass but after some 4-5 white wine glasses, we insisted to pass rapidly on red wines. And suddenly we were told that there is no problem for only red wines arrangement and why did not we ask earlier ?! Indeed, my partner was from that moment served only red wines for the few still remaining course. There seems to be an extremely regrettable miscommunication among the staff, each of our interlocutors having its own interpretation, its own rules. The management should clearly explain the prevailing rule as to the wine arrangements flexibility and ensure it is correctly transmitted to the guests. Should however it be true that the wine arrangement is carved in the stone, comprising both wine and red wines, and may not be modified we would consider this lack of flexibility as extremely disappointing for a reputed restaurant of this high level. Such an inflexible policy should be re-examined and corrective measures taken. We would appreciate a clarification from the management. Regarding the ''bank'' arrangement: the whole 'line' of these quests where served at about the same time and we felt a bit disappointed by the 'industrial' approach we felt over this whole event. If a better - ad hoc and personal - approach is not possible (e.g. for the wines and timing) and this in spite of this high level of restaurant, better not to commercialise such special arrangements.

This restaurant has a very stylishly decorated interior with a separate lounge area for aperitifs. There is also outside space in a garden at the rear.
We visited on a Sunday evening, there was a tasting menu, an alacarte and a 3 course menu offer. We opted for the 3 course offer which ( in relative terms ) was a bargain at €45.
For us this choice was perfect. It started with a beef and veal carpaccio dish, followed by a salmon mains and finished with a delightful deconstructed dessert. Perfection from beginning to end. The staff were the perfect balance of professional and friendly.
If your anywhere close to this town don't hesitate to book in this restaurant.

We called in here before dinner for two glasses of cava, which seemed reasonable value at €6. We visited again on another occasion and had two glasses of the house red. This was a big mistake as it was probably the worst red wine we had ever had in our lives, it was undrinkable. We will definitely avoid the house wine in future.

It is a crowded place right on the beach with luxury seats and tables and an incredible view of the beach. Glass protects you from the wind if you are lucky to get a seat. We had drinks multiple times, snacks (bitterballen) en dinner (once, opted for salads which were huge, kids went for pancakes, fine!). What is special at de Piraat is that no matter how busy, there is always good service. In fact, most establishments in Amsterdam should send their teams to the Piraat to see how its done. Always there for orders, helping out with tables and chairs, bringing water for dogs, helping out proactively when we wanted to change seats (waiter saw us looking around). Excellent

The quality of the meat is excellent. We dined with a group and had wooden planks filled with charcuterie, cheeses, calamaris etc. as entree (not on the menu, we ordered this a week earlier). The main course was a la carte. We all enjoyed the food and ambiance. Great service and staff. We will be back!
