The gathering place was perfectly positioned , opposite the holiday cottage where we recently spent a week . We had booked ahead and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We were slightly disappointed as the starters, main course and dessert we had chosen from the menu outside, earlier in the day, were all sold out! The Mediterranean platter to share was excellent and my venison casserole was really good. The waiter did seem slightly harrassed, as he was the only front of house staff, and we pointed out that there was broken glass under the table. Nevertheless, a very good meal and we look forward to going back when we are next in the area.

After doing a bit of golf, walking and touring of the beautiful Cairngorm National Park which is still wind turbine free we decided to head back to Buchan via Glenshee, Braemar and Ballater.
For lunch we stopped at Braemar and visited the same café as we did the last time we stopped here.
This was a special request from the boys who thoroughly enjoyed the hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows last time round.
Safe to say it was smiles all round after lunch which makes a visit to the local burger joint look expensive yet we enjoyed fresh fruit, vegetables and good home cooking along with the hot chocolate drinks during our visit.
As I said to the girls on the way out 'see you next year '.

Stopped of whilst visiting Braemar. The staff were extremely polite and offered great service. We ordered coffee and homemade scone, we'd had large Scottish breakfasts at our hotel a couple of hours before so weren't very hungry. The coffee was piping hot and the scone, served with butter and jam, was delicious.
We saw various food being delivered to other tables and it all looked delicious. The clip board menus are a nice touch and the contemporary decor is delightful.
We can highly recommend this great little cafe to you!

Travelling from Glasgow to Huntly via Glen Shee, this was a great place to find.
We had smoked salmon, prawn sandwiches and hummus panini. All served with side tasty bits and salad. Refreshing soft drinks as well. We were pleasantly welcomed and enjoyed every morsel.
Thank you!

Would like to write a review but am afraid I can't comment on the food. Went there for breakfast with my wife but we were told they don't serve breakfast. On the same day went there with my family (a group of 8) and were told they cannot accommodate a table for 8, so I suggested two tables for 4 and was told that there was only 3-staff on duty and they could not handle 8-people. We are in Braemar for another week but will not waste our time trying this place again

Restaurant at Glen Lui Hotel

Reviewed By Andy1234andyAndy - Dunoon, United Kingdom

I'd gone for food last year. Was well over priced and pretentious which was fine, I wouldn't of normally complained.
I'd gone to the toilet and gotten lost, then I heard the guy who seemed to be running the show mention the table I was sitting on. He was in his office and talking to a member of staff but the doors were open, it's also half open plan. I was amazed to hear that he was very clearly talking about me and my partner. I couldn't believe what he was saying, he was making fun of us, trying to whisper but I heard every word. It was horrible and I can't repeat what was said it on here. The guy later told me he was the owner. I left very depressed and it ruined my night, there was absolutely no need and I'd been nothing but polite. He took our bill, acting in his fake manner - being extremely polite, then I noticed he kept smirking - probably at the fact he was just making fun of us with his staff.

They treated me very well, despite I arrived late, without booking, and not properly dressed as I could compare with rest of customers.
She recommended me to ask for the game pie, and was really delicious. (Of course you need to like game stews)
I didn't like too much red wine they served, but I will tell I'm too used to high quality reds from my region

Hungry Highlander

At the Hungry highlander we aim to provide the best of local produce available. All food is cooked to order so please allow time for us to get it just right for you. We have freshly made hot and cold rolls, a large selection of chip shop food, tray bakes & tea/coffee etc. Our food is cooked with superior vegetable oil.

The thing about fish and chip shops is that they are easy to benchmark, and this chippy sits firmly mid-table. The portions were about right, the haddock freshly cooked and the chips acceptable, however neither were exceptional. Service was okay, however we seemed to have arrived at rush hour (8pm) and the staff clearly had a lot of orders to juggle so we had to wait a while to be served (they close at 8.30pm). There was no Seating inside however there are picnic tables outside which we took advantage of. The sauces and condiments are free, and the side orders reasonably generous. I'd be happy to return, but wouldn't make a detour.

Lovely cafe with lots of tables inside and out, as it was a nice sunny day we chose to sit out on the decking at the front. It's not table service you place your order and pay at small area with cakes and scones on display, we were just having coffee and cake but was served with a smile and was very nice. Would return.

Brilliant tea room just off the main road in Lumphanan. Home-made scones and cakes, excellent coffee and/or speciality teas. Pots of home-made local jams for sale. Very warm welcome from the owner - Ros Buckingham. We recommend visitors try the local rambles devised by Ken (Ros's husband) which take in local sites of historic interest. Its a very good stopping off place before/after visiting local Castles (many of which lack refreshments). Strongly recommended
