The Phoenix

Reviewed By HopheadWI

We visited on a weekend night. We had not yet tried this establishment but had heard good things about it. There was a good wait (as expected) so we found a couple seats at the bar. After a few minutes of multiple people behind the bar looking at us, one finally took our drink order. Shortly thereafter we ordered an appetizer (wings) and our meal (Cajun Fire Pasta).

We drank THREE drinks before our wings even came out (roughly one hour). Granted they were busy, we had to ask to make sure our food actually was entered into their system. We watched people get up and walk out because their food was taking so long so we knew it was not just us.

We happened to be sitting in an area where waitresses pickup their drink orders for their tables. We heard them all complaining about their customers and basically how much they disliked their job in a nutshell. It was an awkward place to be. They didn't seem to care that we could hear everything they were saying.

The food? YUM. The food makes up for their poor service and demeanor. The wings had unbelievable flavor and were served in a good portion. The Cajun Fire Pasta was out of control good and had ample flavor, big portions of shrimp, quality sausage and lots of veggies. I would absolutely order this again.

More waitresses and more cooks may help alleviate the service issue. If we visit again, it will likely be during a slower time of the week.

It was a Saturday evening and there were more people in back than customers, but the service was slow, we said it was a carry out, but received it on a tray. I asked for ketchup and the clerk didn't know where it was. They said they were so busy, that it makes me think they never have a real rush hour. One burger was pretty over cooked, but we didn't realize it until we got back to the hotel. Just disappointing.

Woodville Cafe

Reviewed By Joseph R - Davenport, Iowa

We are campground hosts at the Army Corp of Engineers at Eau Galle Lake, Highland Ridge Campground and we were told the Woodville Cafe was a good place to have breakfast. Today, my wife and I went to the Woodville Cafe and everything we were told was true. My wife had a Ham & Cheese Omlete and I had the 2 eggs, sausage links, toast and hash brown special. The food was served hot ann the eggs were cooked perfectly. The hash browns were cooked crispy the way I like them and the coffee is very good. My wife's omelet was excellent and she enjoyed the omelet very much. My wife is more critical of food not being prepared the way she likes it but today she enjoyed her breakfast very much. The service is excellent. Our waitress was attentive to our needs, friendly and cheerful. I recommend you try the Woodville Cafe, itd good food and the small town ambience. Also check out the water fountain at the US Post Office. Really cool. July 2013

We've lived in Hammond for several years and haven't been to Ras' in just as many. On a cool, rainy caulifsummer night, we decided to try it out.
It was just the two of us for dinner, so we sat in the bar area, in front of the tvs so we could watch sports.
We ordered the 'pick 3' appetizers, deep fried mushrooms, deep fried cauliflower and onion rings. Dear hubby ordered a bacon cheese burger and I ordered the Turkey sandwich. The cauliflower and mushrooms were really big! Not only that but were crunchy- not mushy! Onion rings were really good too. DH said his burger was (dare he say) the best he has had in a really long time. I was expecting to get a deli style Turkey sandwich but it was a thick slab of Turkey on a tasty rye bread. After all that food and a couple of beers each, our bill was around $30. Our server was great. He was a young guy who also tended to the bar. Chipper with excellent customer service skills. I wished I had his name!
I expect to go back again really soon and have been craving deep fried cauliflower since the day we left!

My husband and I sat at the bar and ordered battered mushrooms, and sweet potato fries. Both were great! The lady bartender was friendly, and the mushrooms were the best we have ever eaten. They were fresh- not frozen, and the batter was light and delicious! We will be back for the fish fry and the salad bar that looked wonderful as well.

This review is based purely on service and the opportunity to eat. No actual food was consumed due to confusion regarding hours. My significant other and I recently moved to within a few miles of Hilltop/Pizza Planet, so we decided to order a couple of burgers for delivery. Their website advertises delivery until 10 p.m., and the menu PDF claims 11 p.m. We were told at 9:10 p.m. that delivery was done for the night. This is frustrating to patrons and does not encourage us to give them another attempt. Either hire more employees or correct your advertisements.

Before going to Culvers, I was told you could compare this place to Dairy Queen. NOPE.

Culvers was SO MUCH BETTER. Everything we had was great. The first day went, we just got Ice Cream/Custard. I got a hot fudge Sunday with strawberries and it hit the spot.
The next DAY, we went back and got burger, fries, cheese curds (you must get cheese curds) and more Ice Cream. The food is just so good!

If you ever see a Culvers and you don't go...you are really missing out on awesomeness for your mouth!

We have visited this restaurant in the past under previous ownership. Always with very good food, nice size servings, very friendly, hometown atmosphere. It's small, limited seating and feels a bit cramped and only checks or cash. Worth the visit though!

Schuggy's American Grill & Taphouse

Schuggy's American Grill & Taphouse features American comfort food. Our menu is filled with hearty home-cooking style items including our open faced pot roast sandwich, 10 varieties of mac 'n cheese, pastas, steaks, burgers, sandwiches and homemade pizza. The food is just the beginning. We also have 26 beers on tap and an extensive cocktail menu. We are family friendly!

We decided to try this place for supper as we have not yet been before. Nice building, welcoming atmosphere and good layout (bar separated from dining area - helps with noise). The menu is impressive offering a wide range of pizza, sandwiches, entrees, pasta, etc. Nice beer selection as well. Prices reasonable. Service friendly.

We ordered the Wachos (waffle fry nachos) as an appetizer. This took quite awhile to come out and ended up coming pretty much the same time as our meal. They were good, but I would have preferred some additional cheese (fresh - not canned nacho cheese). Portion size large - could be ordered as a meal.

I tried the Piggy Mac-n-Cheese - basically bbq pork mac-n-cheese. I ordered the bbq on the size which was a good call as I could put it on to my liking (waiter's suggestion). I ordered the coleslaw and baked beans as sides. The mac-n-cheese was good and a large portion. However, the beans and coleslaw didn't have much flavor to me. With a few tweaks (perhaps additional spices) the meal would have been great.

We also ordered the Bleu Buffalo Bacon Bison burger and onion rings. Unfortunately the burger was terribly dry (over cooked) and not much flavor. The onion rings were also over cooked (darker brown) and had very little onion - mostly all breading. Poor flavor.

With some tweaks and changes, this place could be really great. I would be willing to go back and try some other menu items.

A&W Restaurant

Reviewed By Jilly070 - Hudson, Wisconsin

There were 5 of us for a late lunch. Bonnie waited on us. She was ok, but not super friendly. None of our drinks came in frosty mugs, like the other tables. Maybe it was because we had 2 children with us? They weren't very young though, and it was not the same out of a paper cup. When she delivered what she thought was our food, it wasn't, and she picked up the top of the bun on one of the hamburgers with her bare hand to see what kind it was! We were horrified! Then she checked the reciept, and brought it to a different table! When our food did come, it was just okay. The cheese curds were good, the chili dogs were not. We also had hamburgers and hotdogs which were okay. My daughter ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which came crispy, so she had to watch everyone eat while she waited for her correct order. It was also an expensive A&W. Overall it was a very negative experience and we will not be back.
