Where to Eat in Bainbridge Island: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 14, 2018 Joeann Galban

Although it's just 35 minutes by ferry from Seattle, Bainbridge Island is a totally different world. Travelers who enjoy the outdoors can hike, bike or walk in the Bloedel Reserve or Fort Ward State Park. The island feels rural, and local agriculture is a source of pride for residents (check out what's in season at the farmers' market). Bainbridge Island is also known for its strong visual and performing arts culture, and there's good shopping in Winslow.

This is a strange location in a strip mall but it has some amazing food. We shared a salad and pizza which was plenty. The pizza is thin crusted and crispy

No matter what you choose, you are in for a truly first-class meal set in an environment of simple elegance. In fact, there are ‘seating niches’ that reflect a variety of moods. Whether for quiet conversation or lively banter, there's an appropriate area in Marche for you. I had French onion soup and simply mussels and frites. I would have been pleased no matter my choice, but such was my mood last night. Owner, Greg, spent a few minutes with us in friendly conversation.

We took the ferry over to Bainbridge for weekday trip. This time we stopped for lunch at the Cafe Nola. I chose the Chicken Club sandwich - which was terrific! The Cafe Nola is slightly upscale with a varied menu and excellent service. Looking forward to a return trip to Bainbridge (maybe tomorrow!) and Cafe Nola.

Doc's Marina Grill

Reviewed By rockyjoe - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Doc's Marina Grill is a restaurant that serves a wide range of dishes from seafood to burgers and is located next to the Winslow Wharf Marina on Bainbridge Island. This Marina is in Eagle Harbor which is part of Puget Sound. It is also located about three quarters of a mile west of the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal (it is easy to walk here from the Terminal). Doc’s is open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The bar is open until 11 PM and they have lots of tap beers and mixed drinks.

I dined here with my wife on a Sunday evening in early September and generally enjoyed the food and the experience. Our plan was to take the Ferry to the Island, get some dinner and explore part of Bainbridge Island. I ordered a beer and the Crab Risotto and my wife had the Rockfish Tacos. I thought the Risotto was good and my wife liked her tacos. The prices were a little high as my dish was $21 and my wife’s tacos were $18. I also enjoyed the views of the Marina from their outdoor patio. This place was very busy so we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. While waiting we used that time to walk out to the Marina and checked out all the cool boats. They take reservations but we did not know what time we were eating so had to wait for a table.

Overall I enjoyed the great views and the good food at Doc’s and recommend this restaurant. The prices are on the high side as you pay extra for the view. Also, since it is close to the Ferry Terminal, I bet the prices are jacked up a bit for the tourist crowd. I will be back on my next visit to Bainbridge Island.

We stopped in for a quick breakfast sandwich without knowing anything about Jakes. It turned out to be a great decision!

We had the egg sammy and the eggs and pulled pork. Both were outstanding! We had a nice chat with the owner, Jake who was very appreciative of our business.

Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting more than a fast food sandwich at one of the chains.

Sawatdy Thai Cuisine

Reviewed By westcoastwoodworker

I am a semi-regular visitor to Bainbridge Island. This weekend I found myself here on a Sunday evening, with my "go to" restaurant closed. After looking at TripAdvisor, I decided to try Sawatdsy Thai restaurant.

I started with the chicken dumplings stuffed with vegetables and served with a touch of ginger soy sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds (S3A). While the dumplings were generously filled, they were rather bland. Perhaps more ginger or scallions or mild chili sauce would have made the dish more exciting.

BUT ....

The Drunken Noodles with Chicken was SPECTACULAR!!! I have eaten at more than a dozen of the best Thai restaurants in Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Vancouver and New York. This was THE BEST Thai dish I have ever eaten!!! The generous serving of chicken was more than I expected and the flavours were phenomenal.

I highly recommend Sawatdsy Thai Cuisine. I know I will be eating here on my next trip to the Island.

We love SuBI - the people are wonderful, menu large enough not to be boring and the food is consistently great, every time. Nice range of Japanese offerings - some Korean specialties - and of course great sushi. You're wise to book a reservation in advance - they are quite popular with the Bainbridge crowd. We're really happy to have them here.
