it's a pity the restaurant don't take Reservations. the service is fast and correct a bit "depersonalised" though since the waitress run all the time, the food is ok.
if you are outside, unfortunately the smokers will invade your "sobremesa" with smokes... a pity.

High prices for small portions were not unexpected for this kind of top end restaurant (16 points on Gault-Millau, although last year it had 17), and the food was indeed good, refined and elegantly presented with a sofisticated touch of molecular cuisine. I can't complain about the service either: quite friendly. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was deceiving: the place feels a bit cold, not all elements of decoration are very tasteful for such an elegant place and the absolute absence of background music makes you feel uncomfortable talking as every word reverberates in the room. The wine selection is nonetheless very impressive.

we had dinner here, and it was good, even very good, but still below expectations. we opted for the menue (one surf, one turf, with respective first and main dish) and a bottle of wine. somehow it all lacked the last little bit, in taste, in presentation, in service. for the price (200 CHF for the two of us), I would expect more. compared to our dinner in Locanda Locarnese (for the same price), we felt disappointed.

Maybe the top hotel in Ascona?
We visited for a meal one early evening we sat on the Terrace overlooking the lake, enjoying the view after a few minutes we started to look at the menu and decided what to order.
A waitress came up and asked us to move as she was about to reserve the table and proceeded to show us a table right at the back with no view, no apology stopping for a brief moment at another table to tell a gentleman he could have our table to which he replied his wife would not be ready for sometime?
We decided not to stay and proceeded to walk away she made no attempt to appease us or apologies.
I am so glad we did not stay here.

Despite it's location in a tourist destination, this restaurant still has pride in their food and service. Our dinner wasn't cheap, but it never is in Switzerland. Food was good and service was great. We weren't rushed at all, although there's plenty of opportunity to sell a table multiple times during a busy evening.

Don't forget to reserve for this restaurant! A wonderful meal with excellent service - very friendly. I had the risotto and porchini - delicious. Everyone at our table had something different and all were very happy. We also chose a regional wine which was also excellent. We're tempted to go back tonight.

We’ve been to Grotto La Risata to taste the typical dishes of the region. Couldn’t be more satisfied!! The entire experience was stunning from the moment we stepped in. Perfect location, wonderful outside Terrace, good ambience and cheerful owner. Average prices, surely worth it. Definitely recommended!!

Outstanding garden and food to match it. Day specials were fresh and local: sweet tomato salad with fresh cheese, octopus carpaccio. In good weather it is FULLwhen unfortunately smokers love to seat outside and spoil the taste for the others not smoking. The service was warm - a rarity in Switzerland!

Very honest, there are different opinion about what you can find in Locarno, old town, right behind Piazza Grande. The Locanda serve great food, respectful of the local traditions, Ticinese food and wines come first. A special mention about the service: perfect, kind, very respectful and never intrusive.
The locanda offer a great example in how things need to be done and motivation to do better!
Obviously, in Switz...you pay for what you get...proportionally...is that fair? I guess so...
