Where to Eat in Aqaba: The Best Restaurants and Bars

February 4, 2018 Alice Mieles

Aqaba (English: /ˈækəbə/; Arabic: العقبة‎) is the only coastal city in Jordan and the largest and most populous city on the Gulf of Aqaba. Situated in southernmost Jordan, Aqaba is the administrative centre of the Aqaba Governorate. The city had a population of 148,398 in 2015 and a land area of 375 square kilometres (144.8 sq mi). Today, Aqaba plays a major role in the development of the Jordanian economy, through the vibrant trade and tourism sectors. The Port of Aqaba also serves other countries in the region.

My friend and I had a great time at this place its located on the main "drag" if you will so you can people watch. We went to dinner on a Friday night which is the sabbath so tons of people and families walking around. We sat outside great table side service we had a local Jordanian White Wine. Food was incredible, local and fresh. I can't remember how much the final bill was but nothing crazy. Delicious and awesome.

Rovers Return Aqaba

We came here for some drinks and snacks in the evening and had a mediocre experience. The choice of drinks is good, prices are not too low, but ok. The staff is friendly.
We had beers, a cheese Sandwich with fries and taco shells. The beer was good (as expected), the cheese Sandwich was a bit boring, not well toasted, only cheese on it, nothing else, tasted a little insipid, fries were good, tacos ok.
In my eyes the prices for the food are too high.
Going here for a drink is a good idea, but I would go somewhere else for the food.

Formosa Chinese Restaurant

Reviewed By MomsABeachBum - Maryland,

We stumbled onto Formosa while wandering around Aqaba. We decided to give it a try. We had been told it was Asian with a Jordanian twist. However, most of the menu seemed like your basic Chinese fare. Three sauces were offered at the beginning of the meal. These were not straight out of a jar; all three sauces were complex blends of spices and flavors, as was the food. The deep fried calamari was among the best we have ever had. The Formosa tofu with crispy rice was especially flavorful, with the right balance of flavors and textures. The crispy shredded beef was also very good. The only drawback to our meal was the slow, totally disinterested service. More than once we had to leave the table and go find a waitress for more drinks and the check.

We went there because of all the good reviews and recommendations so my expectations were quite high but I wasn't disappointed. My boyfriend thought the portions could have been slightly bigger which I can understand but I was satisfied. I can definitely recommend you visit this place.

Are at the Syrian Palace Restaurant on my first night in Jordan. It was centred behind a large mosque in the centre of Aqaba in the bustling town.
I ordered a meal for 10 JD and it was more than I could eat in my own. The meal was tasty and leaving it was gutting. Lots of families are at the same time and the restaurant seem to be at least 3/4 full at any time. The staff were friendly and courteous. I recommended it to fellow travelers and they too were impressed by the quality of food and price. If you are in Aqaba anytime, it's a must attend eatery.

Tikka Chicken

This is one of the best restaurants in Aqaba. Its a local place, and i'm sure the owner has never heard of tripadvisor. Its the exact type of place travelers should know about because its not in the typical guide books.

This place has passed the test of time. It has been around for decades and it has never failed me. The chicken is fantastic as well as everything else on the menu (rice, buri bread, etc).
It is not an option for me to visit Aqaba and not eat at this place at lest once. So, next time you pay Aqaba aa visit, dig in and indulge in the amazing chicken this place has to offer.
Bon Appetit!!!

We crossed the border early and wanted a proper breakfast to start off our visit to Jordan. Our guide took us here. We ate indoors, where they have about 5 tables. We were delighted by the variations on familiar hummous, eggplant, fava beans. All were different from what we’ve experienced elsewhere and quite tasty.
Why not five stars?
* pita bread was not very fresh — at a place like this I would expect them to have fresh bread all the time (this was around 9 am )
* no toilet — we had to drive to a gas station to use the toilet there

The restaurant overlooks the beach and has a lovely ambience
We ate fish, but there is also meat on offer. We started with a superbly fresh seafood platter which, amongst other things, contained two huge oysters. I then had a delicious shrimp couscous and my husband had lobster tail with chips. We accompanied it with a bottle of lovely Jordanian white wine.
We thought the prices were reasonable given the quality of the food, fish is expensive everywhere in the world.
Erika, our waitress, looked after us very well and anticipated our needs.
Would we go back? Most definitely yes!

Unfortunately being the low season we were the only people in this huge restaurant but nevertheless the service was excellent, if anything maybe slightly over-attentive, but the food was delicious.
