1770 House Restaurant

Reviewed By Hal013 - New York

We’ve enjoyed 1770 House often and for years, and it’s always been really very good, but not this time. It was just average this visit.

The service was still very good, and the ambiance is still as good as ever. But the food itself was average. The fish was even a little strong, I.e. seemed less than really fresh.

Disappointing, but still OK.

Jack's Stir Brew

Reviewed By KaiserBrit - Hong Kong, China

Jack's is a welcome oasis for a caffeine fix. Located in the village of Amagansett across from The Stephen Talkhouse, Jack's brews-up a host of coffees. Don't be put-off by the long line in Summer. The staff move the line quickly and the baristas can handle all the special requests. Lots of places to sit; indoors, benches out-front and in the rear as well as out on the Amagansett Square lawn.

Lots of snack options, too - baked goods, organic egg sandwiches, organic hard boiled eggs and oatmeal/granola. There are tons of organic snacks (pricy and painfully politically correct) and a good selection of juices and drinks including those from Montauk Juice Factory. Keen focus on local brands which is a nice touch.

Off-season, Jack's maintains its charm w a much more low-key less-frantic scene.

We do miss their Mean Green juice (suspect they are too hard to make in the Summer given the lines) and hope they make a return after Tumbleweed Tuesday.

It was a busy Thursday night at Bostwick's Chowder House, but the wait for a table not too long. When I find Manhattan Clam Chowder on the menu, I can't resist! This Chowder didn't disappoint. A tasty fish sandwich and the Chowder made a perfect meal.

Hampton Chutney Co.

Reviewed By CarTRVLR - Carlisle, Massachusetts

We had to check it out based on the other reviews--- and it was as reviewed! We got a couple of the new interpretations, rather than one of the traditional combinations so can't speak to authenticity, but I can't think that anything here would disappoint. Service with a smile and very helpful with the multitude of choices. When the dosa came out and took up all of a tray-- diagonally---I thought we had over-ordered. But it was amazing, just the right amount of filling and light enough that we left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. I would go out of my way to come back here...!

An outstanding tribute to the greasy spoon in the leafy, beach community of Amagansett. Salads, quesadillas, wings and nachos populate the old plastic clad menus...bonikers sit at the bar while young NYC fashionistas chatter at the tables ...in all average with east end prices...but there isn't much more for lunch so far out on LI.

Rowdy Hall

Reviewed By goverlaw - East Hampton, New York

A few doors away from the East Hampton Cinema down a walkway between 2 buildings is an unobtrusive restaurant named Rowdy Hall with an interesting menu integrating several French Bistro and English Pub type selections.
The Dining Room is rustic and intimate with substantial wooden tables and chairs and in winter a fireplace blazing on colder evenings and in summer a patio in the courtyard outside for warm weather dining.
Select French Onion Soup, Escargot or Moules Frites or try the Fish and Chips, Meatloaf, or the Rowdy Burger all of which provide delightful and satisfying eating.
Its an oasis for beer aficionados with by my count the following numbers of different beers: 7 on tap, 20 bottles, and several cans available.
Every one is friendly, service is acceptable and prices reasonable.
For a down to earth Hamptons experience give Rowdy Hall a try and I'm certain
you will return.
