Second time we were there, first time End of May for lunch and now August for dinner.
Beautiful restaurant (historical building) and excellent food. Nice Terrace.
Very friendly for people with children.
Mrs. Veerle Norman is a very charming host and the Mr. Mark Martens is a great chef.

We learned to know this restaurant thanks to the "bongobon" we received. It is a perfect entry to getting to know the restaurant. It is a steak restaurant which focuses on quality meat. And quality has a price but it remains very reasonable.
The quality is there indeed and the meat is really delicious.
Also the house wine is very good and in my point of view the house wine says a lot of the quality of the restaurant. Also on this point the restaurant provides a very good standard. (Probably because a wine shop is part of the restaurant and so knowledge and quality is present).
Service is perfect with a humouristic taste of the owner and the location is very rustic and in the city centre of Furnes.
A place we will certainly return to when we want high quality steak.
Apart of sundays when the restaurant opens at noon, the restaurant is only open in the evening, which might make reservation a bit difficult during the day. But in our case we were called back and reservation was easy.

Bevaerages had here only, but very pleasant....located on the Grote Markt, which is a very pleasant location, and a nice atmosphere. Service was attentive and the Anglo-Belgian 'dudette' was affable and hard working. Will probably sample the food next time.

We took the 3 pieces of schrimp krokets and a tagliatelli with chicken and pesto. The food was very good but when you have to wait more then 45 minutes for this food to be served, it takes a lot of your hunger.

Tapa Tapa

Reviewed By Pieeter - Ghent, Belgium

It is actually great to eat tapas at a Spanish level in Alveringem, a little but charming village in the middle of nowhere! The tapas ressemble their Spanish equivalents but come overpriced. Same goes for the wine.
The interior is nice, but the atmosphere is crowded. Tables are a bit too closely together. On sunny days, they do have a very nice Terrace. Staff is correct, but the waitresses were not very friendly when we were visiting the restaurant. The owner was very professional and friendly though.
This restaurant would receive a "very good" score if they wouldn't push the 'tapa menu' as a choice. This consists out of a number of tapa's for a fixed price, and you can't choose. That is somehow a West-Flemish interpretation of the loose-ended way Spanish people eat tapa's and it maxes them maximize their profit by serving the more cheaper ingredients. Tapa's were not bad, but not good enough for the price we paid (32 euro for 8 tapas + water, wine and coffee = 50 euro). We were also missing traditionals with 'pan' 'berenjena' or 'bacalao'.
I would consider going back to the restaurant on a quiete evening and choose some random tapa's myself instead of going for the menu.

What a great discovery. We really enjoyed everything about the food. Light, tasteful and beautiful looking in our plates. They know how to care for the details. The new contemporary decoration combines white walls with wooden and warm colors perfectly. The atmosphere is almost perfect. A bit chic but not snobby. Service was impeccable and the chef's wife was very good in advising about the appropriate wine. Wine list selection is great: not too many but enough to be able to find something you like. A place to go if you are in the area for sure!

Received a tip from a local hotel (reviewed separately) to come here to sample traditional cuisine with food sourced locally
Had pâté sampler as a starter - which was great, followed by Sweetbread - which was fantastic
The restaurant was packed with locals and we were lucky to get in thanks to our hotel manager
Hospitality of staff was first class for which they even had an English menu. Waitress / Owner was very welcoming
Highly recommended

This restaurant was highly recommended by some friends. So with much enthusiasm my husband and I booked for a Saturday evening. First: our reservation was lost! This because the phone call was taken by the chef and he did not indicate the right date in the reservations' book. We decided for November menu mainly about wild. Price more than acceptable also with wine included. Aperitives with very good price. Starter was carpaccio of wild meat: excellent meat but it was literally covered by huge pieces of spring onions and on top the decoration was fried onion...which was not crunchy but only a soft uneatable massa. then there was soup of rode biet: very good. Main dish was fazant: big portion, good sauce. Nut the dish contained fresh mushrooms which were tasty but not cleaned at all so that eating you could taste the wood experience :-) Dessert was a mascarpone mousse with red fruits: very good. The only minor point was that my plate was broken...I'd expect that broken dishes are disposed and not served to customers. Overall not what I expected: maybe it was not the right evening or not the right menu. However this is a restaurant, not a brasserie and I think the standard should be higher.

On a cold winter's evening De Plakker's nicely understated festive lighting is an invitation not to miss. Most of the restaurants on the Grote Markt were shut and no outside Seating or those lean-to greenhouses beloved of French and Belgians. Despite not being the tourist season about half the guests were English.
Good friendly service in a nicely decorated interior with touches of antique and modern. Woven tablecloths and paper napkins. The food was excellent, including the eel, shrimp and onion stew. Beautifully cooked prawns and Belgian chips to die for.
