Little Richard's Bar-B-Que

Tucked up on a hill across the street from Lowe’s Foods, this family-owned place always missed my radar...until a date lunch brought us to Clemmons.

The dining room is cozy, clean, and feels like home. The menu shared a strong variety of BBQ offerings, including the chopped pork you’d expect. The pork was tender, flavorful, moist without being greasy. My hubby got the pork platter with in-house handmade chips, white slaw, and puppies. The white slaw was mixed with just the right amount of mayo and the perfect balance of a hit of sweet and salty.

I opted for the Carolina Chicken Plate with baked beans and red slaw, and puppies, of course. The beans have a nice twang that I really liked. Red slaw was perfect with just enough vinegar to keep it interesting.

The real star of my plate was the chicken. Tender chopped meat is smoked it lightly tossed with just enough Carolina Gold sauce to not overpower the smoked flavor. The Carolina Gold sauce is a house specialty and is bottled for take-home for your own culinary adventures.

When the trays come to the table, the server also brings a bottle vinegar-based sauce the feels as though it was heated on the back of the warmer. That liquid deliciousness was just the right touch to the puppies...but that may be sacrilegious in some circles!

The entire meal for 2 was under $25, including beverages. This gem has earned a place in our collection of small, local family-owned lunch or supper stops. Check it out, I’m sure it’ll become one of your regular stops too!

We are frequent customers. My dog loves the Puppacinos. :) They're free! The drivethrough is fast and efficient. The location is a little weird with a hilly entrance drive but its not a big deal if you know that its tucked in close to the entrance to Walgreens.

We stopped here for lunch. It's a big place, nicely decorated, but dark. Service was fast enough, but it seemed to be many different people waiting on us. We ordered our usual Chori-pollo. It was one of the worst chori-pollos I've had. It was extremely salty. The refried beans were good. The chips stood out as being extra good, but not the salsa. Unfortunately, AFTER we were done, we found out by ourselves that they had a free salsa bar where you could take little plastic cups and try different ones. Now why didn't the waiter mention that? We did try some, with our chips, and they had some good salsas we could have really enjoyed, WITH the meal. The ladies room needed some care. The handicap toilet door was totally off the frame and couldn't be closed. The other stall had no lock at all. No "thank-you's" or "good-byes" were given by the staff even though we passed several of them. Easy parking and outdoor seating. Cute bar area.

The food and service are very good. The place is never that busy and there are plenty of tables to choose from. The Korean seafood pancakes are worth a try. The menu is very extensive but the brown sauces are very much alike and too sweet unless you ask them to make it spicy. Overall it's a Chinese restaurant worth trying. The service is also very good and the waitress is very attentive.

Snooks Old Fashion Bar-B-Cue

The best thing about Snook's is their great customer service. The counter employee was super sweet, but we should have asked the price of canned drinks and BBQ before we ordered. The total of our bill was over $16 which included 2 canned drinks and a BBQ tray for 2. I was shocked when the tray was brought to us because it looked like a normal size tray at any other restaurant. When the tray was brought to us, the employee said she added extra BBQ sauce but we couldn't ever find it! That's one thing Snook's doesn't have - a bottle of their own BBQ sauce on the table; they only offer Texas Pete, which we appreciate but their BBQ definitely needed more BBQ flavor. I know why the locals rave about Snook's - it's because there isn't any other place close by to buy good BBQ. The dining area is old but clean and it reminded me of the dining area at The Little Red Caboose on Patterson Avenue in Winston-Salem. I can cross Snook's off my list, and I feel no need to go back.

Pete's Family Restaurant

Reviewed By RONNW1 - Winston Salem, North Carolina

I really don't have a strong opinion about the food at Pete's. It's pretty good and inexpensive. My problem is with the layout of the entrance/waiting area.

I suppose this is a good problem to have, because if the restaurant weren't popular then this wouldn't be an issue for me. There's limited seating while waiting for a table (but to be honest, this is not uncommon at many other places). This means folks are standing between the entrance and the dining area, by the restroom doors and around the cashier stand (which is "conveniently in the middle of this area). I would prefer to wait outside when it's like this, but there's no loudspeaker or pagers used, so you're forced to endure the crowd. Ugh.

Stick with fast food because this place will be a BIG disappointment. Po Boy fried oyster sandwich with no sides, not even a pickle. I've had. better frozen pizza . Burnt crust around the edges and doughy on the bottom. Granddaughter had sides of mac and cheese, fries and orange un-ripe watermelon at $4.50 per side. Pitiful experience for $39. I consider it theft and fraud. They implied the place was a restaurant. We relied on their representation which turned out to be largely false and they took $39 from us. Never again.
