Went for dinner to this newly opened restaurant located upstairs in Village Square. Right now the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license so you are allowed to bring your own wine, which is a bonus. Menu is quite extensive and will be changing regularly with a choice of about 10 starters and 10 main courses. Wanting to have dessert we settled on mains of lamb shank and the beef tongue, a dish that doesn't feature on many menus, so I was tempted. For both dishes, the meat was extremely well prepared and served with an assortment of crunchy vegetables and potatoes. From a personal point of view, we both felt that the accompanying sauces should have been more complex to better complement the meat. Dessert was a poached pear with a Cointreau sauce of grated orange peel. Acceptable but not brilliant. Brinjals and Thyme is a welcome addition to Hermanus with a menu that tries to differentiate itself from the other restaurants in town. I wish them all the very best.

After hearing wonderful reviews we booked a table for dinner last evening ! On arrival the restaurant was closed!!! They had a contact number for us but there was no notification! What can I say.....Dear Willem, my sincerest apologies for neglecting to contact you. My son unfortunately passed away suddenly and I have been away to to deal with the arrangements of his service. This restaurant is a 'must visit' when in Hermanus. Fantastic views of the Heaven & Earth wine farms, super service, excellent wine at very affordable prices and the best lamb chops in the world. You can't ask for more. Tip - try their famous 'Ultimate onion' as a starter. Arrive an hour before your reservation, sit on the deck and enjoy the wine and view.

This restaurant is the perfect place for a relaxing afternoon with your family. The big tree-house-jungle-gym will keep the little ones entertained while you can enjoy delicious food and relax. Sitting outside on a sunny day is simply wonderful! The food is delicious and the staff friendly. I tried one of their Artisan Flatbreads and loved every bite!

We visited for supper and could not made a better decision. The food was awesome and delicious. This restaurant is vegetarian and vegan friendly, so I did not have any single problem with the order. Our waitress, Chloe, was just perfect, she took so much care! I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to be back soon.

We recently honeymooned with a stay in Hermanus and wandered in to Cafe 1904 one evening. We were quickly shown to a table by the most polite and friendly servers.We got chatting and when they found out we were on honeymoon they brought a little congrats and rose to our table. It was a lovely touch but only the tip of the iceberg in terms of exceptional service - which I must stress extended far beyond us as honeymooners. Everyone was receiving great treatment.The owners came and chatted with us and about our holiday plans as well as congratulating us. I had a beautiful fillet steak dish with camembert. My wife had the salmon (three times the size of a fillet back in the UK). The springbok carpaccio and calamari starters were also stunning.One thing that was very obvious too was the relationship between the owners and staff. Laughing and joking and clearly a very happy place which extended into stunning service and food.

This restaurant will need to up itâs game to stay in the same league as other restaurants I ate at during my two weeks in South Africa. The service, while friendly, was terribly slow and we had to chase the waiter several times to find out when it would be ready. When the mains finally arrived, the food tasted nice but it was over priced for what we got. I ordered the seafood linguine which consisted of pasta mainly with a few scattered prawns and clams! It has potential but there are better place to eat in the area. Dear LoolieSorry to have disappointed. Your review jars with the vast majority of the feedback we get. Our apologies if the service was slow, the waiters are trained to advise that the chef prepares our dishes from scratch. As for value, the creamy pasta with prawns, fish and clams for the equivalent of â¬8,00 typically elicits very positive feedback regarding the excellent portion and value from mosts guests. We note you like burgers, pizza and beer; happily, there are a host of budget eateries in Hermanus.
