We visited this place for à lunch.Very good starter, very good fish....For a resonable price. I recommend this restaurantDear Christian H,We are really pleased you enjoy your meal at our table. We always care about the food we provide : Chef only works with extra fresh products, and mainly from South West. It guarantees you a high quality and a tasteful experience. We would be very glad to welcome once more !Sincerely yours,Nicolas Prince, Hotel and restaurant General Manager

Superb old-school restaurant with delightful service and delicious, un-pretentious food. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Quirky and welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate to return. Rather than echo the descriptions of others (see here) it is simply recommended that you go. It isn't particularly expensive, but uniquely memorable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6-course dinner at Les Pipelettes. The lady owner and cook selected fresh ingredients from the market to prepare various courses, using traditional recipes mixed with touches of spice to stimulate the palate. Dishes were very diverse, including cold vegetable soup, fresh tuna (line fishing), sardines from Brittany, stuffed guinea fowl with market vegetables, a prune clafoutis and a peach soup with basil. Quantity, quality of the ingredients and taste were all very good. In addition, the food can be accompanied with some wine by the glass at a very affordable price. Thus is our best meal in Pau and we will definitely go back. Make sure you book in advance if you intend to try as the chef needs to plan for the meals.

We were guided here by a combination of Google, Tripadvisor and other reviews (although interestingly, our hotelier said that Lonely Planet is by fay the most independent). It's slightly off the beaten track but was almost full throughout the Friday evening we were there, in September. It's a slightly unconventional menu: starters of fig with goats cheese and mains of squid with berlotti beans had us reaching for the translator app. But they - and the crab starter and the braised beef main - were delicious. And a really welcome change from the same old stuff. And the staff were a welcome change, too... interested, engaged and informed, even to the extent of making it a personal mission to find us a taxi! The menu looks slightly pricey - with mains around 20-24 euros - but the 'formule' means that you get 2 courses of terrific food for 28 euros: and they threw in a gorgeous additional 'pre-starter' of home made terrine for free.Add to that a really decent bottle of Graves for 22euros and you have a really interesting, delicious, carefully devised and executed meal for two for under 90 euros. Brilliant: I wish we had a place like this in Teddington, London.

The restaurant "Le Canard Royal" (The Royal Duck) offers original, sophisticated and gourmet dishes based on French South West products. Probably the best place in Pau to discover authentic regional products and unique recipes created by our talented chef
If you favor duck, this is your place. Nearly every dish is centered on duck, contains duck, or is duck. All are excellent, with servers and managers who are courteous, attentive, and extremely helpful, even to those not fluent in French. Mine was simply the best serving of Magret de Canard I have ever had.

We discovered this restaurant a block away from where we live (boulevard des Pyrénées in Pau) and it was a nice surprise. The dishes were fresh and tasty. We really enjoyed the aspargus soup wiht an egg (oeuf mollet). The main dish was a fish (I forgot the name) with some chorizo, that was a nice combination. The financier as a dessert was also delicious. We recommand it!

A really special meal. Without being pretentious. You know you are somewhere where fresh, local produce are top of the bill when you have 4 choices for each course and you want everyone of them! And what we chose did not disappoint, fabulous flavours, quality ingredients and presentation. You truly tasted everything on your plate and when you have eaten here you will know exactly what I mean.Sadly we are ignorant English who speak very little French but we were expertly and delightfully taken through the menu with a beautiful French/ Irish accent! If you are in Pau and love food, with very reasonably priced wine to compliment your meal, please do visit this relatively new restaurant, I do not believe you will be disappointed.

Fast and high quality restaurant.Original and classical dishes (from south-west of France receipes )New owners since August 2016 relooked restaurant, Experienced chef and very friendly waitress.
We selected L'Opera mainly because it is very close to our hotel. We certainly lucked out! We were greeted warmly by the person who turned out to be our server. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and always available, despite the ever-increasing number of patrons. As with a number of similar restaurants, there is a limited number of selections, in this case two in every category (appetizer, entree, dessert). The two of use decided to differ completely, so were able to taste every selection in each course. There were no disappointments! Wines were all from the region, and very reasonably priced. Indeed, the entire evening was modest in price; two table d'hote meals and a bottle of good wine for 72 euros!Thank you very much for this kind message! It was a pleasure to welcome you!Best regards

A beautiful and friendly restaurant. We had lunch here after we found out that a lot of restaurants are closed on Monday (not always mentioned correct on TA).Very friendly served, very nice food and wine, and very good price!

Terrific local feel. Packed on off season Saturday night. Let us eat at bar. Four of us and it worked. Staff is so friendly and explained all. Everyone loved the food. With 2 drinks each and full stomachs we spent 12 euro each Inc tip. Have a fun night in Pau at a Spanish tapas bar.
