Bellevue

A party of six hungry people after a day on the water, peckish and eager for some nice food. We decided on the brasserie Bellevue. None of us expected a culinary highlight but just decent fare in a nice setting. Service was slow and random we had four different people serve us. It took them 20 minutes to serve us a drinks. Out of all the dishes the carpaccio was quite good. We also enjoyed the brown bread. Everything else was poor. We were hungry and tired and didn't want to complain and spoil our mood. (We were hoping things might improve with the main course: they didn't. We opted not to have dessert or coffee, fed up with the long waits) The two filets of sole offered on the menu and ordered were randomly changed without explanation to a filet of brill and one tiny filet of sole. Both flavorless and clearly frozen fish not fresh. The sea bass was covered with prawns in an overly sweet tomato paste. The garnish was an flavorless heap of red pepper zucchini and onion. Mushroom spaghetti with 4 (!) mushroom lots of onion and no flavor. The french fries arrived after we had all but finished the main course. The service might have been poor and slow but the real culprit is the chef/owner who allows this kind of miserable food to be served. They may get away with this kind of food because of the location: it does have a nice view of the confluence of three rivers. But by all reasonable measures this is a gastronomic slap in the face: no love for the food, no care for the customer. Utterly terrible. I suggest have drink there to enjoy the view. Eat anywhere but here.

A good ambience, friendly service and a very local feel to it, so most definitely not touristy. Reasonable prices, good wines and your standard French affair. If you just feel like French without any bells and whistles, Ferdinands will not disappoint you.

Visited on a Saturday evening for a family meal. Lovely seasonal menu with several off menu specials available. No children menu but we are asked what our 8 year old liked and they simply made him his favourite food. The service is something special and different. I think it might have been the mother of the chef / owner and what a lovely lady. It's like you are having dinner at a close friend's home. Quality of the food very good and combined with the service and atmosphere an Excellent rating more than justified.

We visited The Erwtenpeller Bistro on the evening of Valentine's Day withjust the two of us. We were received at the door. The decor was warm / cozy with a gas fireplace through which one can see the other part of the restaurant. All tables are arranged so that you can always look out with a view at the busy rivers Merwede, North and Oude Maascoming together and the skyline of the historic city of Dordrecht. The dining experience is beyond that of what you'd normally expect from a bistro. My husband opted for the 3 course Valentine menu (30 euros) and I made my choice from the "normal" three-course menu (34 euros). Possibly we could choose 4 courses. We got an appetizer and fresh bread beforehand. The signs were put up tasteful. The fries were fabulously tasty and there was also a salad. The meat super tender (veal rib-eye and sirloin from the Valentine's menu). Really mature flavor. If I can still give something of criticism: the dessert was very tasty, but for a bistro it may in my opinion have more volume. And one of the waitresses was a bit unsure and uncomfortable about. We assume that it will be fine, because it seems to us inspiring to work in such a fine restaurant. We definitely come back and take over other people it!

When we arrived at this medium sized bistro (about 50 seats) we were warmly welcomed and escorted to our table. The waiter (Peter) went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. We wanted to order wine by the glass and had plenty to choose from against acceptable prices for a decent size glass. Water from the tap for free (that's how it should be!). All our dishes were well prepared and tasted delicious and were nicely decorated and laid out. For 50 euro per person for a three-course meal, accompanied with five glasses of good wine (the desert wines are worthwhile mentioning) we left feeling very happy and will certainly be back soon!
