Being a monday night this was one of the few places open however they have a nice menu and the service is prompt and attentive. The owners could not have been nicer. We ate from the carte which made it a little more expensive than it needed to be.If you don't like you steak red then definitely ask for well done (my wife does not and it was too underdone for her taste).

Les 4 Marmoins

The 4 Marmoins sits at the bottom of Charolles' most historic street. At 30 degrees in the shade, even in the evening, the decision to sit outside did not require very much thought. The young people who served us were charming, attentive, and did their best with our stumbling French (assisted by other, more fluent, guests). The menu is simple but good. Salads to start with (one of us chèvre, the other tomato), main course respectively salmon, and what was delightfully billed on the menu as "fish and ships". (Our waiter thought this typo was exceedingly funny. But there was no discount for pointing it out & the ensuing jocularity.) A pichet of house wine is a bit of a risk but there was nothing at all wrong with the 50cl of Côtes du Rhone we enjoyed with our fish (yes, red with fish - who cares? No one in France, as far as I can see). All reasonably priced. An unpretentious, honest, trustworthy sort of place. Recommended. But I wish I knew who or what the 4 Marmoins are/were. Must do more homework next time.

We often cruise nearby but have never actually visited Charolles. Locals in Paray le Monial have twice recommended this restaurant, plus the far more expensive sister Michelin restaurant across the road. We arrived having made the necessary advance booking and were seated promptly. The food was sublime, beautifully presented and we were pleased to see that both interior and exterior terrace were smoke free. Normally a HUGE problem in France. I enjoyed a wonderful carrot veloute entrée followed by the volaille. Delicious! My wife, the salad with boiled beef (pot au feu). Amazing! The ambiance is lovely, the service impeccable so much so, we intend splashing out and visiting their Michelin rated restaurant in two weeks time. Can’t wait! Our bill for lunch including a stunning half bottle of wine was €77.00 What a deal!Well worth the visit but don’t forget to book a table!

Welcomed when we pitched up early and offered the house aperitif. Cremant with grotto - excellent on a warm night. We had three courses from the "Bourgignon" menu. Wife & daughter chose Gazpacho and I had the vegetable mille feuille. Steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. The cheeses were superb as were the desserts. My wife had a chocolate fondant and I had their version of an apricot crumble which was quite delicious. The crumble was made with mixed size lumps of crumble and the texture contrasts were lovely - and the apricot sorbet that came with it was good too. Service was very good - on a hot night we asked for suggestions and got a chilled red Pinot noir. Great advice. Lovely atmosphere - lots of local families, sitting outside and enjoying the evening. What à Nice day!

We ate at Restaurant Frederic Doucet late on a Friday evening after a very slow, tiring drive from Geneva...after 2 delayed flights from Corfu. We were staying at the hotel. So after we checked in we were in need of some good food. The restaurant staff were very welcoming and understanding and we ended up sitting down well after 9pm. Nothing was a problem and we ended up ordering a la carte, the Charolais Beef Fillet and the Charolais Lamb Fillet. Of course this was preceded by 4 or 5 lovely amuse bouche. Both the beef and lamb were very good and sauces served with both dishes a highlight as well. The service as I mentioned was first rate. The wine list is extensive in both red and white Burgundies, with Macon wines also having a good representation as you might expect given where the town of Charolles is located. Restaurant Frederic Doucet is well worth the minor detour off the A6.
