I am visiting Europe for the first time in the Umbrian countryside not far from Todi. I am staying for a week in a small village. Right next door from Castello Izzalini is this roadside cafe/bar. I came here several times in the early morning for an espresso and a pastry. The pastries are made at the small bakery down the street. One morning I selected a fresh pear to go with my croissant and espresso. I enjoyed the warm welcome from the friendly, young gentleman behind the counter. Local folks dropped in for a chat and coffee. Some picked up a pack of cigarettes. It was fun listening to the locals and witnessing their interaction at the start of the day at this warm spot. The bundled youngsters outside are waiting on the bench for the school bus. Here is a small restaurant. The gentleman told me they serve wild boar and pasta as a local specialty for evening dinner and many other freshly made local dishes. He encouraged me to come with my friends in the evening. Time spent here is a splendid place for an introduction to the friendly folks of Italy. Kairos Kafe will be my hangout if I get to come again.

After a couple of hours exploring Todi, our family party of 9 settled on lunch at Le Cisterne - an excellent choice. The staff gave us a private room with wall frescoes and antique furnishings. The food was good, and the waiter was most helpful. We will definitely return to Le Cisterne when we next go to Todi.Mister Arthur, thank you for your review.Looking forward to welcome you back at Le Cisterne.Grazie

This is a bit out of the way if you are at the top of the hill in Todi, but it is definitely on your way up or down in the Zona Industriale of Todi. It is a commercial bakery and if you stand at one of the counters you can watch the bakers and decorators work in the morning. They have a coffee bar, and serve delicious pastries, pizza by the square , gelato (limited range of flavors) , have a refrigerated case of cold beverages and the case of fancy cakes. The cookies , cornettos, pastries , pizza are outstanding; thirteen different traditional cookies that melt in your mouth, pistachio cornettos that my husband cannot get enough of, several types of pizza from tomato and cheese to ham and artichoke , at lunch pasta salads. The pastries include individual Sacher torts, chocolate mountains, cream filled puffs, meringues, small Linzer torts and more. Cakes are beautifully decorated, cream filled with things like chantilly cream or mocha. Go and sit with a pastry, drink coffee and savor the beauty of the baker's art, wishing you could eat your way through the case.
