My family and I (ages ranging from 12 - 69) happened across this restaurant in late October 2013, much like the previous reviewer, completely by accident. We are very pleased that we did. The restaurant itself is well decorated and we were greeted by a very friendly host. The salad bar was well stocked with fresh, tasty produce and the main meal was served reasonably promptly. Having eaten at similar restaurants (in Bruggen and Hardt) the standard had been set high but the Croatia Restaurant did not fail to deliver. The food and service was outstanding and we were made to feel very welcome. My attempts to converse in (limited) German also appeared to be welcomed. Overall I would whole-heartedly recommend Restaurant Craotia to anyone staying in or visiting the area. We will certainly be back.I have only marked the atmosphere as 4/5 as there was only one other table in use when we visited.

In der Marktschänke sitzt man drinnen wie drauÃen sehr schön. Die Bedienung ist sehr nett und aufmerksam, auch wenn das Lokal gut besucht ist. Man sollte auf jeden Fall reservieren. Die Karte bietet eine gute Auswahl für jeden Geschmack. Der Wein war auch sehr lecker. Gerne wieder!

Immer noch klein, aber fein. Ansprechendes Ambiente im südländischen Stil. Sehr gepflegte Räumlichkeit. Service sehr gut, Küche ebenfalls. Heute hatte ich gegrillten Lachs und div. Vorspeisen. Dessert hatte ich nicht mehr geschafft. Je nach Geschmack kann ich mir vorstellen, dass alles von der Speisekarte empfehlenswert ist. Ich werde es weiter testen. Das Lokal ist soweit rollstuhlgerecht, aber leider nicht die Toiletten. Da ist wohl was geplant.

Reasonably priced friendly staff and cold beer. Toilets are clean and children friendly. Beer garden in old courtyard of town and small animal swings will go back.

This little restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food was quite delicious. They have special seasoned spicy pork chops that were some of the best I have ever had. The wait staff we had did not speak English but it wasn't difficult to work with them.

In a nice German oldtown, Brender is a nice German restaurant that gives good value for money. Served in small rooms, the food is decent and well prices. Service is kinda slow but that comes with this kind of restaurant. I'd recommend it for anymore who would like some decent German food such as Schnitzel or currywurst.

Wir waren mit Freunden nach einem schönen Spaziergang im Averna in Himmerich. Vorweg - wir waren wohl in allen portugiesischen Restaurants im Kreis Heinsberg und in manchen bestimmt 20-30 mal. Jedes hat seine Stärken und Schwächen.. Das Averna war neu für uns und wir waren gespannt.... leider haben wir erst nach dem Essen gecheckt - das Fisch die groÃe Spezialität des Hauses ist...Meines Wissens kommt die Gambasauce - die im Lebensmitteleinzelhandel im Kreis Heinsberg zu kaufen ist - von Averna.Wir hatten Gambas, Sardinen gegrillt, Rippchen, Salat und ein halbes, gegrilltes Hähnchen.... alles gut und lecker....Die Gamba- Sauce ist mit zu sauer...aber das ist echt Geschmacksache...Die Gambas waren eine ordentliche Qualität - was keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist!!!Die Rippchen hätte ich mir würziger/schärfer gewünscht - aber wieder Geschmacksache!Wir haben auch noch einen Krümmelpudding ergattern können - sehr lecker! Zur Location - durch den verwinkelten Bau ist das Averna deutlich ruhiger als die meisten hektisch/ vollen / lauten Restaurant im Kreis HS - plus Punkt! Service war gut!

This Michelin star-decorated and Gault Millau praised (17/20 points) restaurant is located in a quiet, rural village and has existed under the same ownership for 27 years - all of which speaks for its quality and renown . Two menus are on offer - either a set or 'Surprise' menu - with guests having the freedom to determine the quantity (up to 7 courses are possible). The restaurant, also known as the St Jacques, is justly but by no means exclusively renowned for its fish and offers a classical, light cuisine in the modern French style with the emphasis on fresh, quality products. It has also established a reputation for an extensive and quality wine cellar - with over 1000 bottles on hand as well as an impressive 'alley' of cooling wine cabinets as one passes from the front of the restaurant to the main dining room. The ambience is pleasing - unfussy and uncluttered with modern, fresh colours - all of which perfectly complement the restaurant's kitchen (also on view from the main dining room) and philosophy. Service is especially welcoming - and combines an easy but unobtrusive friendliness with an impressive food and wine knowledge. All in all, a place that's worth making the effort to visit. (Through partnerships with a couple of local hotels, a shuttle service to and from the bedroom-less restaurant is also available).Why then not the maximum five points? The weather when we visited permitted dining on the outside terrace which, although screened off, shares the space with the dustbins from the kitchen - with occasional noise and flies the result. I like eating here when away on business. I'm always on my own and the owner/manager gives a good welcome and encourages me to sit wherever I like - he's not bothered about keeping his larger tables for bigger groups etc.The food is good and there is plenty of choice. Every meal comes with a free salad bar which is a big plus - nice to get some fresh food when eating out.I'm looking forward to going back.
