In the first known document that mentions it (dated from 1145), the settlement is called Gomilnitz, a reference either to the Slavic gomilca which denotes a small hill, or to gom (a group or chain of hills); indeed Gamlitz is situated among and between rolling hills. The tradition of the local castle goes back to the year 1111.

in Gamlitz auf dem Weg von und nach Kroatien.Im Weinlandhof übernachten wir nun schon seit ca. 10 Jahren, sind immer freundlich und zuvorkommend empfangen worden. Die Zimmer sind hell und immer in sauberem Zustand. Das Essen welche wir bisher genieÃen durften war immer zu unserer Zufriedenheit und schmackhaft. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist sehr reichhaltig es ist für jeden etwas dabei!Wir können dieses Haus nur weiter empfehlen!

after a few hours of hiking and a long drive from western Kärnten our hosts in a nearby hotel reserved a table at Maitz for dinner, for our international group of friends. We have been hungry, and tired, and dressed for hiking - not really suitable for this surprisingly modern and refined restaurant; newertheless the staff was very friendly to us, and helped to decide about the food and wine. Fried chicken (half per person!) has been delicious as well as filling, and really liked the local Moscatell.

It is no good idea to go to Südsteiermark at the beginnig od July, because many chefs are taking holidays and the places are almost closed. It was not the case od Sattlerhof, the Chef was probably on holidays and his deputy was on Saturday probably home with his family and I didnt know untill today, who was preparing our meal. Bad experience is also experience.

We came for early dinner with our 2,5 yo daughter. Service was good and our waitress spoke very good English. They even had English menu. High chairs for kids are available. We had pumpkin soup which was big and fantastic. The backhendl (local speciallty, deep fried bread crumbed chicken) was bit dissapointing. But this is our favorite Styrian dish so we have high expectations. Reasonably priced.

We have been now two days in a row for lunch at the weinbank. Outstanding good food and comfortable service. We were welcomed although we came with our 3 months old baby - which in some restaurants seemed to be a problem. The food is definitely worth every cent you pay.We can recommend the place - we haven't tried the restaurant, only the Wirtshaus which is already delicious

Before coming here should note that this is restaurant not a buschenshank, however this doesn't detract from the great food served here. The menu is small and compact with a few good choices, we had the backhendl for 3 with 3 salads. The whole food was really good quality and tasted great.The wine is s selection from the local wineyards which are in a 1km radius of the restaurant.
