Cloisters Restaurant

We chose to dine here for my birthday after having read TA reviews. The restaurant is to the right of reception at Bailbrook House which is set high looking towards Bath. The amuse bouche was a good start to the meal. I particularly enjoyed the next course of watercress soup which was packed with flavour and we both chose treacle bread which was very moreish.I opted for the lamb which was moist and perfectly cooked. My husband enjoyed the beef. We had petits fours with coffees afterwards. All of which were well-presented and tasty. The chef did a brilliant job however, the kitchen was let down by front-of- house service.2 woefully under-trained waitresses who showed a lack of basic service skills, spoilt the feel of the evening which when paying fine dining prices is unacceptable. A charming deputy Supervisor did compensate us which was very fair but I would rather have had the expected service for my special meal. Apparently there were 2 other similar complaints about service by other diners. The management need to get good, experienced staff when charging for fine dining otherwise it would have been perfect and I would've given 5 circles.

Splendidly shabby-chic, the place has a great atmosphere - buzzy and obviously popular. And with good reason. Excellent food, reasonably priced wine, friendly service. Highly recommended. It's conveniently situated just across Pulteney Bridge from the centre of town.

The ‘Seven’ course tasting menu was surprisingly good. The appetisers were flavour bombs, the scallops so delicate with the granache and the Burford brown egg with truffle was astonishing. Perfect warm rye bread, an extra. A portion of brill: divine (loved the cucumber balls) and the meat course a choice of venison or grouse; gorgeous cabbage rolls and blackberry (but felt the chocolate didn’t compliment the grouse - better with venison). Tor cheese next with chicory and juicy raisins. Dark chocolate pud followed by pineapple and ice cream then petit fours! Single (tiny) coffee at £4.50 is not good value. Overall we enjoyed the meal and the service was excellent, nice to see the chefs serving! Decor in the dining room uninspiring though.

one should walk in this restaurant with flowers in order to throw them at the cook. indeed, the food was consistently amazing. we had five different starters. they were all home-made and delicious. one of the best greek restaurants we have been to. there was a small incident with the waitress who discussed a dry white wine with me and then brought me a red wine and told me 5 times that this is what i ordered and i was wrong, which made me feel uncomfortable.Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It means a lot to us and it helps us thoroughly. I'm really glad you enjoyed both the food and the service as well as the atmosphere. After a little research, I stumbled across Eight whilst planning our weekend visit to Bath. Booked a table on line with ease. What can I say! An absolute exquisite small restaurant which I’m glad I booked for. Eight tables only in the main restaurant and catering downstairs for parties. Tucked down a smaller side street in central Bath, we found the restaurant in easy walking distances from where we were staying on the Royal Crescent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were all welcoming and happy to engage in conversation. The menu consisted of eight dishes with food supplied from local producers. A suggestion of wine (red and/or white) were on the menu for each dish and boy did they get this right! We took our daughter with us and for an eleven year old, she was also very impressed (not much impresses a pre teen these days!) with the selection. She had the plaice on seafood risotto. - cooked to perfection and served in a stunning lobster sauce, she devoured the lot.I had the roast lamb and all I have to say is wow! Cooked medium rare and served with croquet, roast potatoes and peas on a mint base topped with a beautiful jús. It melted. My husband had the rabbit which was served among baby carrot and kale, topped with a jús. He described it as tender and succulent with just the right accompaniment .Desert was also outstanding. The flourless chocolate cake with ice cream and the ice cream trios were a dream. An exquisite meal had by all of us and we can’t recommend highly enough. Dear Guest,Thank you for your review. We were so happy to look after you and your family and are delighted that you enjoyed your evening with us. We hope to welcome you back to Eight again soon.

We were not disappointed with our first visit here. There are always high expectations when a restaurant has such great reviews so it’s a joy when those reviews are clearly well deserved. We were met by lovely welcoming staff who’s friendly and warm approach continued throughout the birthday lunch for our Son. He lives in Bath and was desperate to go having heard such good things about it.It’s a great atmosphere in the stone walled cellar of one of Baths typical Georgian houses. It was quite hot in there despite it being rather cold and wet outside. We started with some King Prawn bruschetta which was simply divine and one had the mushroom which again was superb. My main course I really didn’t want to come to an end. Penne with mushrooms, walnuts and Gorgonzola.....I can not tell you how amazing this dish was. The rest of our party each had something different and not one of us could do anything other than lavish praise for the food. We had some fabulous ice cream for dessert and the restaurant did a discrete Happy Birthday on a plate with a small candle in our Sons portion (he hates a fuss) so this was the perfect touch,The staff were attentive without crowding you, a perfect balance of impeccable customer service. We had an absolutely superb time there, wonderful food, thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back again.

We went here on Staurday evening en famile (6), to celebrate my and my husbands birthdays. We were greeted and shown to our table by a truly lovely welcoming lady. There was no rush at all to order and the waiters/waitresses were not at all intrusive. We ordered wine and starters and the mains. The starters were fabulous and the wine was delightful. But we had to send my daughters and my main courses back due to the mash potatoes being cold! (that's why i just gave it a 4 rating not a 5). However, it came back with piping hot potatoes and with the minimal amount of fuss. Afterwards the "manager?" came to ask if everything was okay - which was lovely. We really enjoyed the deserts and even though i dont like panacotta (my husbands choice), i had a spoonful and really liked this. The restaurant was warm and inviting - my ony gripe was that at 8p.m. there were two little children running around and one kept banging into the back of my chair (obviously nothing to do with the management). I do like children but....All in all it was a fabulous experience and one that i would reapeat.Well done to all the staff for being so attentive.
