Arrived at 5:15 pm, seated immediately and our order was taken shortly after. Our food was served within a short amount of time but one order was incorrect. Unfortunately for us, our server got slammed with customers and never bothered to come back and inquire if everything was ok. Yes, we could have flagged her down but were on a time schedule and didn’t have extra time to wait for the cook to prepare the correct entree. On the plus side, the CA omelette was cooked perfectly and the portion sizes are large.

The cheeseburger I had here was far superior to the $14 hamburger I bought in San Francisco last weekend. It was supposedly a gourmet hamburger but it does not hold up to this delicious, juicy, and tasty cheeseburger. The onion rings were average but good enough.

I first came across this restaurant listing in Untappd. There definitely were a few beers listed that I wanted to try. I then checked out their Website. It also states (at the top of the home page) that the hours on Sunday are 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. After reading and enjoying the description of their unique take on their services, and anxious to sample a few of their dining offerings, my wife I decided to give it a try. We arrived a few minutes before 2 PM, Sunday. It appeared that there were two reasonably-sized parties (8-10 people) occupying two of the larger tables on the patio. No other tables were occupied. The inside looked like there were also a number of tables available. We walked up to the hostess, who just looked away and seemed completely disinterested in having anything to do with us. When I asked her about the two of us dining, her response was – the kitchen is so swamped we are not taking any more new customers, unless you have a reservation. I was quite puzzled, as both Untappd and their own site stated they were open until eight. When I asked about this, she said that the kitchen actually closes at three, so that they can get prepared for the evening. I told her that I appreciated the new information and understood the situation, but when I mentioned that it was not even 2 o'clock yet and they were actually supposed to be open until 3:00, she just said - that's too bad there's nothing I can do about it. Again, I can certainly understand being overwhelmed by unanticipated customers. But adding two more meals for the cooks to prepare would not significantly change the time frame nor impact any further duties they needed to do when they were completed with their first shift. It's not like it was 2:30 or 2:45 or we had a group of people. I don't need to be subjected to the rudeness and customer insensitivity displayed today. There are many other restaurants that we will continue to patronize, in spite of wanting to have tried this establishment. I also sent this information to the restaurant management, and got no response from them,I apologize for the confusion and would like to speak to you. I have not received an email or a message in regards to your concern. Please email me [email protected] and we can further discuss this.I appreciate you reaching you out and it is not like us to not reciprocate.

Located in the Orangethorpe Plaza on the northwest corner of Orangethorpe Avenue and Euclid Street, Holdaak is an excellent example of an enterprise that focuses on doing just a few things extremely well. It is housed in a building with a sleek exterior that contains a small but modern and clean dining room.Holdaak’s business is summed up in their extended name, Holdaak Far East Chicken Shop. They sell chicken, and that’s it – no beef, pork or seafood. And, it’s all deep fried, so don’t look for any baked, grilled or broiled options. Their menu is extremely limited, consisting of chicken wings, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, chicken salads and fries. NOTE that you should expect to wait a few minutes for your food as everything is prepared to order.I ordered their chicken sandwich and shake fries. You’ll definitely need both hands to eat this sandwich! Between the two soft buns is a huge piece of tempura-battered chicken topped with sliced jalapenos, pickled onions, pickled daikon radish and their “comeback sauce,” which tastes like a Sriracha mayo. The guilt I felt in eating this monster was quickly erased by its amazing combination of flavors and textures. The shake fries come in a paper bag with a side of Korean spices that you can shake into your fries (hence the name). I thought it was a little gimmicky at first, but I eventually appreciated how you could control the amount of spices, depending on your heat tolerance. They offer three kinds of dipping sauces that you can try on either your chicken or fries: Ranch, cherry ketchup, or comeback sauce. The service was friendly and the dining room was well-maintained. The bottom line is that if you’re looking for something healthy to eat, you probably should avoid this place. However, if you have a craving for flavorful fried chicken, by all means make your way to Holdaak!
