Where to eat Diner food in Aachen: The Best Restaurants and Bars

August 18, 2020 Major Galusha

Find out what Diner restaurants to try in Aachen. Best known as the capital of Charlemagne's Frankish empire, today's Aachen sits at the juncture where Germany meets the Netherlands (the Dutch know it as Aken) and Belgium (where "Walloons" call it Aix-la-Chapelle). But Aachen's history goes back even further than 8th-century Charlemagne. Roman soldiers dating back to the 1st century AD cherished its hot springs (as did Charlemagne, who loved a good spa day just as much as the next guy). Aachen Cathedral, northern Europe's oldest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the city's main attraction.

The restaurant located in an old missionary serves a small menu with easy going meals and easy going service. Very cheap and in accordance with the meal. Not too fancy, but good to go. We had the local special "Zuur vlees" which was alright. The restaurant closes at 8 PM!!! So be in time.

Superb service, great burgers, reasonably priced - perfect combination for dining at this place. Don't miss out the sweet potatoes fries and beef burger, it's not to be missed. Also, the quantity is quite big, so one patty should be good for a single person.

Ferbers

Found this restaurant whilst rather lost on our first visit to Aachen. It was a dark Monday (1st Oct), nearing 22;00. It was raining and being post operative, I was in a wheelchair. Therefore to accidentally come across Ferbers, was the most welcoming of sights. The lights, sign of life, outdoor heaters and the enticing warmth of indoor silk effect flames. This was only exacerbated even more, by a young waiter opening the door to help us in. He had a huge smile on his face, which we soon realised was the ethos of all the fabulous staff. We were over-joyed. Not only somewhere open, post travelling from Sheffield (UK) 492.9 miles. To then receive such a warm hospitable welcome when you think of the time and day of the week it was, was truly appreciated. The restaurant is incredibly clean, very modern in decor and has lots of different aspects and areas to it, I can imagine Ferbers can very easily change its vibe from day to night and inside to outside, especially with it being located in a park. It must get extremely busy. The food we had was very nice (choice of soups with yummy warm little bread rolls, salmon pasta and steak. Tasty chips and salad) but it was the staff that really gives this venue the five stars. All the waiters were dressed so smart in black, very professional, yet really friendly. Even the kitchen staff acknowledged us, smiling and waving. What a good advert for Germany they all were. Especially Alan. He was so interested in us and where we were heading, yet was just as attentive to other guests. He even introduced us to other diners which just made us feel so welcome and at home. You could see how well the staff all got on and how well they worked together. It really did make for such a pleasurable experience. Therefore I really do recommend Ferbers Parkcafe. Wish it was nearer to us! If travelling anywhere near again, we would definitely make the effort to go out of our way to visit. Well worth the drive folks!
