Looked forward to going to this restaurant but was very disappointed. Food was mediocre- bland and lacking in flavour. Service was terrible- the staff that served us were aloof and inattentive, often not around when needed.. We were asked to wait at the bar whilst our table was being prepared- despite trying to get the bar lady’s attention, we weren’t asked if we wanted to order a drink as she was busy with orders from the tables already seated- perhaps more staff is needed at the bar area? Disappointing overall experience.

We didn’t make a reservation and on a Monday night they told us they were fully booked and only bar seats were available. The bar had approximately 10-12 seats of which only 2 were occupied and the receptionist man placed on the the end right on the two seats right next to the kitchen. We should have left then but I asked the server if we could move to the seats facing the kitchen and she was very nice and allowed us to move away from the kitchen seats to bar seats facing the kitchen. We had read a review and the restaurant had been highly recommended as a Vietnamese Asian restaurant with a twist. We had the bug tempura, the kimchi was tasty but it would have been better if the tempura batter was not so thick and fried a bit longer until it was cooked completely. To be honest there was more tempura than bug. We had the scallops as they were local, these were not big and were over cooked. The sauce was not a delicate Asian sauce it was more gluey and tasted of flour, definitely didn’t have any Asian feel to it other than the few bits of salmon roe added on top. We had the baked fish, it was great, tasty and fresh. Overall our review is mixed the receptionist was not professional but the serving staff were great. The food was inconsistent but at that price we were expecting a little bit more. By the way when we left there were still empty tables so we didn’t know why we were asked to sit on the bar tables closest to the kitchen. Recommend you make a booking to get a table if you are a couple.

Our daughter, who is an adventurous diner, took us to this new-ish eatery for dinner last week. Not only is the interior of this tiny restaurant fab, but the food is a modern take on both Indian and European dishes executed exceptionally. With an interesting wine list and terrific service I could not recommend more highly. We will return!

I booked a whisky tasting for my husband's birthday. The tasting was done by our wonderful guide Yasmin, who took us through the very interesting history of whisky in the beautiful setting that is 1806. We enjoyed whisky samples paired with lovely food, and finished off with cocktails. I would definitely recommend this to anyone seeking something different.

Today I caught up with my sister and cousin for a long overdue catch up.We headed down Smith Street Collingwood (a place littered with great food options) and had a wonderful lunch at Saint Crispin. Saint Crispin never disappoints. From the way in which you are greeted and then throughout your dining experience - always warm, knowledgeable and the staff allow you the space to enjoy the food and your company. We started with a range of “snacks” from the menu to share - each very light, flavoursome and tasty. Chicken liver, pork and puff rice with salmon the base of each snack. My main was the delicious lamb cutlets. Others had the wild barramundi and a warm broccoli vegetarian dish. Each was excellent. We finished with desserts to share as well - a divine chocolate dish and a Szechuan pepper brûlée. Love eating at Saint Crispin. Can’t wait until I return next when Broadsheet work with the staff to deliver their first restaurant.

Popped in here on a wet day with a colleague and were seated tucked away in this quite intimate restaurant. The most unusual thing about the restaurant was the menu consisted of just 4 entree and 4 main course choices,The 3 specials were all soups. But the choices were all very choosable. The caesar salad was generous and freshh and the service quite seamless.

As older foodies, we've seen trends come and go, and one that seems to be coming again is French food, about which I have mixed feelings, as it can be heavy and has more delicate flavours than we've become used to with Asian-fusion/Modern Australian food. However, Hell of the North did a lovely job. My pork loin was beautifully cooked, though the sauce diable was a little gentle in flavour. The pommes frites side was just right. Not too chunky, but not straw-like either. And the brussel sprouts side was tasty too. My husband's Tarte Tatin special was near perfection. We also liked the wine choices, and the staff's knowledge in advising us. The ambience is cosy, and not too noisy. The prices are reasonable for the quality.
