Hong Kong Palace

Within walking distance of our hotel the Hong Kong Palace ticked all the boxes. In need of a Restaurant for New Years Eve we took the buffet menu for 4, too much excellent quality Chinese food had seafood, game and meat and great veg. Including 2 bottles of wine, desserts, coffees and brandies. Under 170"euro for the 4 of us. Because of the size could probably get a table for 2/4 without the need to make a reservation.

Having searched on tripadvisor and viamichelin to find a genuine chinese resto, also being open on a Sunday evening, we happened upon this one. We have been spoilt most of our lives, living in Greater London and thus able to visit true chinese restos in Soho and many other areas where the grand majority of customers are actually chinese themselves - the best test of authenticity. Since retiring to Brittany, we have been bereft of all possibility of a decent 'chinese', only Viet and Thai pretenders to include chinese cuisine. Our disappointment at finding it to be essentially the same in the region of Suresnes/Neuilly can be imagined.. However, let me review properly THIS restaurant. My wife chose the 59€ menu - a variety of hors d'œuvres for entree, followed by a whole lobster with rice on the side, then a choice of the carte for dessert. Pricey, but magnificent in taste, amount and value.I chose to go à la carte, aiming to roughly go for about the same 59€ - a portion of ''nems' (4) as they call spring-rolls in France; a variety of steamed items (sui mai, har gow...4 in all); salt and pepper gambas (4) and finally duck lacqué with fried noodles - or duck breast in a superb light sauce.. The wine list was short on white wine choices and I had to have a premier cru Montagny at 38€, but, after all, it was our wedding anniversary dinner. Both of us were absolutely super-happy with everything, unusual in a couple who tend to be too picky... The only thing which could be improved would be the prices - but we did not feel hard done by given the quality and ambience. What is for certain is that this will be our favourite whenever we go up to Paris with our touring caravan. We were staying at Camping Indigo, which I really should do a 4 or 5 star review on separately.
