Gasthaus zur Schere

Another day abroad another business dinner! We wandered around Northeim in the relatively balmy autumnal conditions and built a healthy appetite before reaching this Hotel restaurant. It’s hidden labyrinth style towards the back of the hotel and is decorated in a rustic rural cum hunting lodge style. No Feng Shui here in either operation or layout and none the worse for that.Well populated covers the night we were in and a healthy proportion of locals [against our homologation of german, english and american] which is always a healthy sign.Taking our lead from the surroundings all of us leant towards hearty and meaty selections. They included Carpaccio of beef, a shared local sausage platter, substantial soups as starters followed by Schnitzel, local sausage and green cabbage and the usual suspects in a raft of steaks for mains. All, predominantly, washed down with the admirable output of the local Einbecker Brauhaus. For my sake I shared the sausage platter and was mightily impressed with the spread of tastes, types and presentation of all of the varieties.I followed that with a simply grilled rib eye steak, jacket potato green beans and cream cheese filling.I never fail to be amazed at how [almost regardless of where you are] good the quality german served meat is. Seems strange to say this but when your home region often disappoints [to the level where there’s usually an internal fight with yourself to not order a steak in the UK as so often the reality never matches the expectation!]My steak was cooked to perfection and was tender and succulent - “Please sir can I have some more”Our waitress was a homely older german lady but was efficiency itself and she coped admirably with the variability in language, accent and choices. In summary I’d say the venue exceeded expectations of both quality and choice and at reasonable prices and I would happily return.Vegetarians, though, may not share the same experience! As my fellow countryman would say - Pukka.

I recently used this café bar whilst on business in Germany and it was a really good experience and pleasure to discover on the motorway. The choice of food was good, variety of drinks and more importantly the welcome received from the staff.

Went to Restaurant FREIgeist for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant is located inside the Hotel FREIgeist, which is beautifully built (modern architecture) and located in the woods. The hotel has a buffet restaurant which is only open to groups and a separate restaurant for individual guests. Great atmosphere (cosy, wooden fireplace, garden view) and attentive staff.Food was ok, although there were not that much vegetables with the main course. Quality and presentation are very good and up to date.Good choice when in Northeim. Would go there again!

We both are Germans and we know Leinemann. As we saw the restaurant we were very happy, because we knew “Leinemann” has the best Brat- and Currywurst ever. Hungry and happy we went into the restaurant, no service in sight. One guy, wearing an apron, was sitting at a table, one guest was already waiting. Nothing happened. After 5 min the apron guy left and said “she is on the phone and will be here soon“ further 3 min later a sweaty lady was looking out of the back room with a phone in her hand. She said annoyed/stressed “I am coming“ and disappeared. The other guest left after a while. Further 2-4 min waiting time. Nothing happened, we left too. BTW, the lady was only the icing of the cake. The food, which was displayed, haven’t been covered at all. Flies were flying around and the pre prepared meat looked dry and old. The potato salad got already a dark crust. Why do we give 2 stars? Because we know Leinemann can do better and after reading the other reviews we thought it just was a bad day (hopefully)
