A small bar/tavern right near Polygon Wood. The owner is extremely passionate about military history and has a fantastic collection of memorabilia. He was also responsible for identifying a number of recently found WW1 bodies, dug up when excavating for a pipeline, and as such has visited the families in Australia. He has a great story to tell.The food is quite good and service is excellent. Currently he (and a small group) is establishing a Brothers in Arms memorial, to remember family brothers killed in the war. The memorial is located opposite the restaurant

This is a small bar-restaurant run by Johan Vanderwalle and his wife and is a great stop-off after walking the length of Polygon Wood from the Australian 5th Division Memorial. The beer is cold and a pate salad lunch is great value and a real treat. Johan has also many relics of the First World War with a special emphasis on things Australian. And when you're there, give him a "gidday" for Aussie.

Thank you to the manager for his response to my post below. Since you cared enough to respond, I would like you to have the details of this incident. We have learned that when we travel if we simply ask for âcoffeeâ we are often served expresso, which we do not care for. We ask if an establishment has âAmerican coffee.â On the day in question I asked your server, a young lady, if you had American coffee. She said she did. I asked her how much it was and I âthoughtâ she said 3 euro. I subsequently asked for an American coffee with milk. My husband and son were to join me in moments for coffee as well. What I got was a teacup HALF full. I was shocked. I gave her two 2 euro coins.... never got change. My husband and son joined me, took one look at what I got and said they would not get coffees after all. I took a picture of the half cup because I could not believe it. I donât know what happened with your measured machines or your server and my change. All I know is I paid 4 euro and got half a teacup of some kind of coffee. I rarely give a rating of 1.... only 6 in about 400 reviews. I am very glad that most of your reviews are positive. You are obviously doing a good job. I just have to be honest about MY experience, and it was not good. Thank you again for your response.

I was leading a coach of young students on a two day battlefield tour and our hotel was nearby. The breakfast was rather basic so I popped into Maona - best thing Iâve done and the perfect place for a luscious choice of breakfast and coffee which was badly needed! All freshly made with a wide choice and the coffee is to die for... I will definitely return when Iâm next over - it does both takeaway and sit in so all options covered.A superb place!!
