Speak Easy has always been a strange creature among Lijiang restaurants, as it was really more of a coffee shop attached to an English school. Also its kind of out of the way for tourists.But now I'm happy to say that chef-owner Linda is really putting an effort into making this into a real restaurant.They have a new and improved menu with many good things, such as pizza, sandwiches, pastas, steaks, etc as well as a large variety of cakes and pastries, which are in my opinion Linda's specialties.It also offers cheap Beer Lao, which is an export from Laos and much better than the local brews.Speak Easy has a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, with seating both indoors and outdoors overlooking the beautiful Black Dragon pool. They also have books in English and Chinese, board games and a big TV with a Play Station if you feel like lingering.It also has the advantage of being attached to a foreigner food store, so if you feel like buying your own cheese, ham, bacon, wine, olives, etc, this is the right place.Recently they been doing events such as pajama parties, make your own pizza parties and BBQ. Fun for everyone and a good chance to meet and mingle with the local crowd.I recommend going to Black Dragon Pool and then going to Speak Easy for lunch and if there is an event you are interest too later on, come back at night.

In Yunnan is hard to find a good coffee in the morning and I'm an addict-:). N's kitchen has great english breakfast, capuccino and home baked whole wheat bread. What else do you need? Without a doubt this place has the best live music in town, there are always talented musicians from different nationalities on stage, there is a great variety of international beers and wines on the menu, and the cocktails are also quite good, it is also a great place hub knob as this is where the hip crowd hangs out, come early tough because due to old town regulations music has to stop at 11:00 pm.

We were very impressed by the quality of food and service at Cornerstone. We had the fish and shrimp tacos, which were outstanding. Also probably the best cheesecake we have ever had in China. Staff is super nice. Yes! Our fish and shrimp tacos are local favorites. Hard shell tacos are hard to find, but we got'em!
