Great food with an ocean view! Bamboo walls with wooden tables and a sand floor. Very friendly staff who are accomodating to your preferences. Great prices too.

We went in here for breakfast because we liked the menu: eggs, bacon, toast, fruit salad, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee. However we were bowled over by both the presentation and the quality. Eggs and bacon cooked to perfection, really good fruit salad, proper juice and real coffee. And all for $5.

We've been in Puerto Lopez for a week and we've eaten here three times. Other restaurants or basic eateries have no comparison to Ancora's menu and meals. We've both had the "Octopus Gallega Style", Vern's had the Tenderloin twice. We've had the tuna salad, green salad and the Caprese salad. I had the shrimp and the calamari dinners. Vern enjoys an espresso after our meal and for our dinner drinks I always enjoy the strawberry smoothie. Vern drinks the (plain) lemonade. Both our favorites is the Octopus. neither of us have ever had it prepared so it comes out this tender. Fantastic! The owners are a couple, he's Spanish and she's Ecuadorian, no wonder the food is so awesome. the service is outstanding. Highly recommend.

I have been there a few times and sampled one of their many amazing dessert items - never disappointed. The menu is extensive and varied with many tasty looking items. Although Iâve not eaten an actual meal there, I look forward to the opportunity to sample some other things.

This is by no stretch of the imagination âfine diningâ, but it is the next best thing. The owner/host is friendly and welcoming and multilingual (though depth of language ability is clearly limited). Speaking Spanish, even my execrable version of it, is clearly a plus. Artisanal beer is excellent, food (we shared a medio pizza americana and were each stuffed) plentiful and tasty, service relaxed and informal. This is great place to come and spend an hour or two over lunch. Coffee is good and the stracciatella hellado as good as I have had anywhere. Setting/decor is tropical fine and comfortable. Amazingly quiet for being only one small block away from the Malecón. We havenât eaten anywhere else in Puerto Lopez, but we did spend a few hours walkabout and didnât see anything nicer. Fours stars only because it doesnât compare to the Pierre or Chez Gallopin, but a clear five star for rural/ beach Ecuador. Well worth going. One other couple there while we were, and they had clearly returned for the second or third time. A very hearty and sincere positive recommendation.

Not sure what is going on or what all the great reviews are for but we showed up here for dinner and were told they don't do dinner service?! What? You are a restaurant right? So we thought okay. Well let's sit and have a couple drinks then go elsewhere for dinner. Can we order a couple cocktails? Sorry all we have is beer. So let me get this straight? You are a restaurant yes? But you have no food. Only cake. OK. Can we order a rum and coke? No we have no coke. Really? No coke. A restaurant has no coke. Yup. Only beer. Well, we were a little shocked. The lady serving us did her best to tide this over. She ran to the tienda and bought some coke in the meantime while I nursed a beer but my wife won't drink beer so she patiently waited. Not sure what's going on but this is pretty lame for a business that is only frequented by foreigners and expats and gringos. ???Thanks Mr. Joel for taking the time to review our place. We are always welcoming people's reviews. However, this is our first "terrible" review and unfortunately, it's not because of our service but because your lack of research. Our reviews all mention that we are the Best known Spot for Breakfast Lovers. If you researched our listing NOWHERE does it list that we serve Dinners or that we are a Restaurant or a Bar . It clearly says "La Buena VIda Cafeteria, Serving: Breakfast" and that we serve breakfast and snacks until 5:00pm (tuna wraps and sandwiches). We are a Bed and Breakfast and have beers and soda for our guests.... if we ran out of Soda that night at least our worker was kind enough to put her best effort in making you pleased... She didn't have to because you're an outside guest coming in after our operating hours. I think instead of rating us so terribly you should've at least taken in consideration that we are not a Restaurant but a Cafeteria.

Visited Jimmys twice during our visit to the coast...the food was delicious and the place is located oceanfront. Enjoyed a delicious fresh fried whole fish; had the corvina and camotillo. Also shrimp ceviche, shrimp rice with fried plantains and cold beer. Great place to enjoy dining with friends and family! Only a few miles from Olon and Puerto Lopez...
