Nice ambiance... but unfortunately the food is awful.. . fish was all batter.. so greasy it made you feel sick and the most expensive roast dinner in Salisbury was shocking... very beige.. tasteless and small.. won't eat there againHi,Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we appreciate all feedback.I'm sorry that on this occasion you didn't feel we delivered our usual exceptionally high standard. Our fish and chips is usually very highly regarded and I apologise that you found the roast was not to your taste. With so many items on the plate - meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage, spring greens, roasted carrots, swede puree, cauliflower cheese, extra gravy - I appreciate that the individual items may have appeared small. No frills, great beer and chatty locals. This place can feel a bit too local with all of the regular drinkers who frequent it, but if you like their great ale and head here with a willingness to chat with whoever is there, you'll soon become one of them.Dog friendly and filled with the most eclectic mix of wafes and strays in Salisbury, all united by good beer.Don't be afraid to try all of the beers they have available rather than just their flagship, but overstated Summer Lightening. Although a decent pint (and they always are here) they have a fantastic range of beers that will please all palates.If you are visiting Salisbury from outside the UK, you should definitely make this a port of call. I might even see you there...

Popped in for an early lunch and was very pleased we did. Really spacious and clean and the staff were friendly and efficient. We both opted for the Byron burger with fries and it was great. Burgers are cooked to your liking ...I had mine well done but that did not equate to dry and over cooked it was gorgeous and juicy...thoroughly enjoyed.Nobody has time for a dry burger! We were looking for somewhere for lunch, having visited the Cathedral, and spotted this old inn, which has been refurbished in a contemporary eclectic style and has an excellent menu, different to the normal predictable pub fare, including plaice and macaroni cheese in addition to the old stalwarts like fish and chips.Being a Tuesday lunchtime, it was relatively quiet inside - the garden area outside was quite busy. Service was friendly and fast and the food was well-cooked and enjoyable.Ten out of ten!Ian - thank you so much for such a lovely review - perfectly strive what we are all trying to achieve every day ... hope to see you again soon

Decent pub food. Nothing special. For pub food unusual small portions, but that's fine. Service was ok after i finally got to order. The food was fine and the service OK but the lunchtime deal is a farce ! They advertise 2 courses for £9 .. we specifically asked about this only to find afterwards we were charged full price and a waitress whilst apologizing profusely did nothing, claiming she didn't realize we wanted the £9 deal, which only applied to the small not the regular fish & chips. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNINGHi,We are terribly sorry regarding the misunderstanding of the menu , we are currently reviewing the Icons on the menu which denote the set price lunch menu, I am glad to know that the waitress did apologize and by way of a good will gesture I would like to invite you back for a complimentary Fish and Chips, please call me to arrange this and we hope to hear from you soon.Kind RegardsJamie Framesmith.

We went for a quick bite to eat not realizing that it would end up being our favorite restaurant. Staff are friendly, the restaurant atmosphere is nice and i love the look of it. Perfect for date night.

Good central position. This ancient old building made a great stopover on Halloween! Spooky low beams and sloping floors but modern facilities, king bed, new bathroom with shower and roll-top bath. Windows open - although rather noisey as on main road!Pity no decorations in bar/restaurant to acknowledge the Halloween theme and only gas fires! Still we didn't eat here but in the fabulous spooky Haunch of Venison where Halloween fun reigned!Beware room #14 if tall as ducking under low beam across room! But otherwise very comfy. Have to unload quickly on double yellow lines outside. Parking ticket for £6 from hotel for public car park close by. Staff extremely helpful - taking bags up to room etc. Lovely breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, delicious avocado and poached egg! Again good service and friendly staff. Good stay - will definitely return!
