It served as capital of the Kazakh state in its various forms from 1929 to 1997, under the influence of the then Soviet Union and its appointees. Alma-Ata was the host city for a 1978 international conference on Primary Health Care where the Alma Ata Declaration was adopted, marking a paradigm shift in global public health. In 1997, the government relocated the capital to Astana in the north of the country, which is about 12 hours away by train.

I had high hopes for this steakhouse. Unfortunately- like many things in life- my hopes were deflated by a dirty steak knife.The rib-eye was okay but over cooked. The chicken was dry. The service was adequate.Definitely not worth the moneyHello!Thank you very much for the review of yours. My own experience was the options for making the burgers your way. No nothing like American fast food burger joints. Itâs a good quality burger with all the condiments. I liked the different buns available sort of gives the guest fun options. Hey itâs Almaty. The dining room area is warm and cozy as well as comfortable. They have wool blankets over chairs around all tables and booths. Iâm impressed. The menu is simple and complete with healthy choices and delicious foods drink and desserts. What more can one ask for. Iâm going back over tomorrow afternoon to pick another burger from build your own option. NorCal guy

Entrecôte definitely is a place worth visiting. Choice of wines is average, but they have Georgian Mukuzani and this resolves the case. Choice of steaks is wide; I went for a horse meat entrecôte, which was pretty good. Sauce on a side turned out not to be necessary - as it was not very good either, but the meat was close to perfect.Service is fine, but not fantastic - my slight interest for dessert remained unnoticed. And the price was high for Almaty measure - but quite acceptable, compared to Europe.

You can tell by looking around at plates of food and happy faces that Crudo is a good restaurant. I ordered a simple burger, ordered it medium rare - 99% of the places in Kazakhstan cook their meats past well-done, so I was looking forward to a western-style burger that was pink in the middle. What they brought me was cooked more like seared tuna - crusty on the outside, red raw beef in the middle. Gross.Go to Crudo, but don't order a burger. I visited Chechil pub several times during this year. It is a chain of pubs located in different parts of Almaty. Crowd is mainly local and if you want to go local, definitely visit this place which you can easily find using search on Internet or maps. It is safe for foreigners and any tourist, food and drinks are very good and not expensive at all, live band performs various songs (not loud!) and they have always people dancing there. They have discount for beer on Tuesdays, different discounts for drink sets which you can choose from their menu. I recommend a seafood plate for beer and/or fried prawns. Service is very fast, atmosphere is very friendly, reasonable prices what can be better? Pub is also good for team buildings, celebrations and any kind of gatherings again for good prices and pleasant atmosphere. One of the best pubs in Almaty.dancing

I have lived in Almaty now for 8 mths. We eat here several times a month but will not be back. It only takes one very bad service resulting in us leaving before we even received our meals for us to not want to eat here again. We came here on Friday the 23rd of August We arrived around 6.45pm. We did not have a reservation but the high tables were empty and we were happy to sit there. There was no one else there. After about 10 min another couple came in then 10min later single person sat down as well. Eventually our waitress took our order. We waited 50 min for our started to arrive. In the mean time the other two groups had starters and their main meal served. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes we had had enough. And to top it off two people who had joined the high tables 45 min after we arrived received their main meals. We asked for the bill and another female staff member apologized and said it was a mix up in the kitchen. We had asked our waitress many times what was happening and she told us it was because we had a starter, so did the others sitting at our tables. We were the only foreigners sitting at these tables. The rest were all local. There are too many restaurants in Almaty to have to deal with terrible service. Good afternoon! Thanks for your feedback.
