Buffalo Wild Wings

Over the last 3 years coming here my partner and I have had not too warm of a welcome compared to the other walk ins maybe because we are dressed in our Nascar gear ⚙️. Not once but 3 years in a row. Only last year we had a manager to acknowledge us like the rest of the guests. Not to mention when you get to the hotel you find that the orders are always wrong as far as how many wings we ordered we never get the full amount we ordered. I think we will find another place to go next season.

Chili’s is our favorite. The menu is varied and pleasing, service generally very good no matter where we’ve been. Until today...The restaurant was virtually empty, no problem with our preferred seating seating (booth by a window, away from kitchen). Drink service fast and waitress friendly. Our expectation was the great “Chili’s Experience “ would carry the day. Not so.We both ordered a cup of their signature chili, then the two meat combo. We each had the jalapeño-cheese sausage, fries, corn and brisket.Everything was great except the brisket. We should have sent it back. Sliced tissue thin, it was mostly fat and gristle - we should’ve sent it back.Guys, good smoked brisket is a staple from your home state of Texas. Take a lesson from the Texas-style, thick sliced, lean, thoroughly smoked brisket from, say, a Rudy’s, etc. You’ll have an exciting addition to the menu.

Wings are not difficult to do, however Leo's manages to get it wrong on many levels. First, the wings tend to be overcooked in the fryer almost to the point of being burnt. The sauces are not very flavorful and they are dumped over the wings after they are fried and delivered directly to the table making the breading soggy and unappealing. I am used to having wings fried, sauced, then finished in the oven providing a less soggy and more flavorful wing. Most of the sauces that I have tried at Leo's are just variations of Frank's Red Hot at varying stages of being watered down, not much flavor, just varying degrees of heat. And due to the way they are cooked, the meat of the wings is not penetrated with flavor at all. The home fries came out cooked well but unflavored and could have done with a bit of salt or something else to enhance their flavor. Jalapeño poppers were done well and had cream cheese rather than cheddar which makes for a better taste overall. The best part of my meal was the Corn Puffs (fried sweet cream corn) which were quite delicious. The service tends to be very slow with "friends" of the restaurant seemingly getting preferential treatment. As an example, our group ordered appetizers and it took about 45 minutes for them to be delivered to our table. The table next to us ordered the exact same appetizers and theirs was delivered almost immediately (we did note that our waitress knew the people at the other table by name). We were not in a hurry so it wasn't that much of a problem, however the same thing happened with our wing order. The other table ordered after us and received their meal before us, and were actually finished eating and paying for their order before ours was delivered. This is not the first time that we have experienced slow service at this restaurant and I am unsure if they are just understaffed or poorly managed.Pricing is a bit high seeing (Wing prices are just over $1/wing each. ) as their wing orders do not come with anything other than celery (if they remember to bring it) so expect to pay extra for fries or a side if you are looking to make a complete meal. Because of this, I am not sure it qualifies for the "Dining on a budget" category with a wing order though you can eat for under $10 if you drink water and do not wish to have a side or order a sandwich instead. As to the deceptive billing: Leo's charges you a fee to utilize a credit or debit card. There is no mention of this in the restaurant until you produce a payment method at the register or with your waitstaff. Though the fee is not much (The one person in our group had an additional $0.44 added to their bill which was under $15 before the fee), it should be mentioned prominently somewhere in the place and made known BEFORE you place your order, or better yet, change the prices on your menu to reflect this charge and offer a CASH DISCOUNT instead. Leo's has been in Sumter for a long time and as I prefer local places to chain restaurants I am holding out hope that it will improve.

Logan's Roadhouse

You’d expect a restaurant called ‘Roadhouse’ to be raucous, and while the ambience suggests it will be loud, at 7 PM on a Wednesday, we didn’t find it too noisy for conversation. Todd gave us very good service and chatted us up. Self-described as ‘the short, bald guy’, I’d call him good natured, attentive and garrulous. While there was no draft beer (problem with the CO2) and they were out of my first choice, that was a very minor issue. The bucket of peanuts on each table were nice and salty. Their Roadhouse soup was quite good, as was the house salad. We shared a T-bone steak which was tasty, tender, and perfectly cooked to medium-rare as ordered.

Had a wonderful lunch here with my daughter. Friendly service and awesome burgers. The decor is welcoming and nostalgic with pictures of athletes from yesteryear. The restaurant is vegan friendly with black bean burgers and the ability to make your own sandwiches. They have beer on draught and outdoor seating. Will definitely go back!

We spent one night in Sumter and chose this restaurant for dinner. It was close to our hotel. They were busy when we arrived, but we were seated right away. We enjoyed our dinner. Our waiter was attentive without hovering. Good drinks, too.

Willie Sues

Willie Sue’s has it “right”....period! Spot-on Service, a great menu backed-up with a first class kitchen, and an incredible bar offering. First, the menu....this is NOT a beer-and-burger joint with a few other offerings... NO, Willie Sues has a comprehensive menu, cutting across poultry, pork, fish, and beef, and at every price point, too.But if it’s a beer and a burger you want, you’ll get it, but short yourself the exploration of the complete, First-Class menu. We had the artichoke/spinach dip and the maple sugar crusted pork belly appetizers. Hot, right, and quick. The Caesar salad dressing was homemade and perfect. Fork-tender ribeyes and take home boxes topped it all off.The bar list is simply amazing and is nearly as large as the menu itself. Popular and even local craft beers, liquors of every kind and quality, and a very complete wine list of domestic and foreign varieties. This bar would be at home in any of the largest establishments in any major city we’ve visited - and we’ve visited quite a few.For us it was the first-class birthday dinner at a first-class, delightful establishment. As someone kinda said “Don’t leave Sumter without it - indulge”.We WILL be back and look forward to a return bout with that excellent menu!
