Whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight we called into the White Lion (PO30 3AA) for dinner. Having been disappointed with other dining venues we were delighted to find a pleasant atmosphere, great service and a good, reasonably priced menu.A great find ... thoroughly recommend.Thank you for your great review, much appreciated. We had booked a table and so we must have been expected. We were about twenty minutes early for our table time but planned to have a drink beforehand. When we walked in we felt unwelcome as though we were intruding on the staff sitting and chatting at the bar. The door was open but nobody seemed to welcome us or come forward to take us to a table. The service was a little haphazard. The lady who brought out the food was friendly however we had no idea what was on offer in the âbistro styleâ no menu set up.It was all a little strange and we wonât hurry back. Just odd!!Apologies Alex, we have not served food for 3 months now so this must have been under a different Regime a few months ago! We are still not serving food but hope to soon,BestGeorge

The modest frontage hides a large dining area, and though the car park is small there is more parking not far uphill. Interesting menu with a good gluten free selection served by genuinely helpful, interested and engaging staff. Big portions so you may not need a starter or dessert! Almost merits five stars but the food was a bit cold and my fish slightly over cooked ( though there was a sudden rush of people just as we arrived) and there is stiff competition on the island in god pub food. Donât let my rating put you off as weâd certainly go again.

Was struggling to get a table at our usual haunts on the IOW, so decided to give this pub a go based on the reviews here. Was not disappointed, excellent food my partner had barbecue ribs to die for, and I had one of the best steak and ale pies in my experience. Really good deserts followed and at a reasonable price. Loved the aircraft themed decor as well of course it is located next to the airport. Plenty of parking as well. Note would advise you reserve a table in advance. as it gets busy.

We visited mid-week. Service was good (though the restaurant was not busy). The food was tasty and obviously not mass-produced. The veggie burger pleased our vegetarian and the real ale was well kept.

We ate here whilst on holiday and were warmly welcomed. The choice of drinks and food are good as was the service .The food was delicious and hot. Iâve visited the Artisan since 20 July and have met Jamie, Lynette, Angus, Ben, Rob and Anthony as the bar staff. Anthony served me my first ever Artisan coffee last Sunday. The atmosphere is outstanding.I have met Jamie most often out of the staff, who, like the other staff is very accommodating to customersâ individual needs, who provide a warm welcome to me and other customers.I also made my first ever visit to the Upstairs part of the Artisan on 28 September which Iâd not got around to visiting before last Saturday where they have an additional bar and seating.The Artisan also holds live music.I have varied having one or more soft cold and hot drinks to one or more drinks and a meal, and staying for a few minutes through to an hour or longer, depending on the occasion in question, but whatever the duration, I always arrive and leave feeling happy at the Artisan.The Artisan has many alcoholic drinks including cocktails, as well as soft drinks including an exquisite orange juice from freshly squeezed oranges, and a separate fizzy orange juice drink, plus specialist rhubarb and separately apple drinks among the wide variety of drinks they sell.At my most recent visit, Lynette and Jamie were on duty. On this occasion, Jamie took my order at the bar counter and also delivered my fish & chips meal to my table (an excellent size portion of both) where I watched and listened to a Jazz trio performing to my right at the far end of the downstairs (entrance) room.Wow thankyou for your fantastic review, it really is much appreciatedAnthony

Room lovely and clean, bed comfortable.Good breakfast, dinner menu doesnât change so we ate out second night. Steak was a bit like cardboard but dessert okay.

Good atmosphere but the food is a bit naff. You would expect a restaurant that is on the beach would serve fresh fish, but no I got a reheated frozen triangle piece of fish with frozen peas. Chips looked fresh though
