We popped in for a couple of drinks after lunch at The Pavilion. The lady behind the bar was friendly and seemed to be more than happy to be 'wound up' by the locals who were in. The beer was good and, my wife told me, the wine pretty much average pub quality. All in all, we were pleased to have visited again, having not been in since it changed from being 'Braids'.Thanks for the review Stuart. We have upgraded our wine list recently and hope to see you again soon.

The Ship Inn

The Ship Inn at Elie in Fife has long been one of Scotland's most iconic pubs, famous for its great views, stunning location, and even as the only pub in the world to have a cricket team with a pitch on the beach. The owners, Graham and Rachel Bucknall, w

Very expensive for what is on offer. We waited an extraordinary long time and although apologies were forthcoming - and a refund - it was just too long for my pregnant wife, increasingly restless toddler and a French friend I'd brought along to show what the east Neuk had to offer. The Crail ale was also far too cold.Disappointing also for myself, who as a local, would like to support local business. All year round.Won't be coming back for a long time I'm afraid. I think we'd be better off with a nice picnic basket on the beach which I suspect we'll be doing from now on.After our ordeal I bumped into another family who'd obviously had the same experiment - we'd joked about having escaped the "hospitality" ... And agreed that we'd tried it and that was their chance. The ship inn will not suffer from people voting with their feet as I suspect it's a hobby business rather than something that has to be profitable.Perhaps a bit harsh! But having looked forward to a nice day out- it stole some of our sunshine that day. Fortunately I know the area so well, it's the best place and there are so many other fine dining opportunities to enjoy elsewhere.

The poor reviews are to be believed. It should be amazing....wonderful spot, cozy vibe etc. Instead food was really poor, and the management was a masterclass in 'passive aggressive'. My Cullen Skink starter was ok (bread stale)..but when it emerged again with mashed potato on top as my wife's Main Course and called a 'pie'.. unbelievable. I'm not going to waste time detailing any more..long reviews are dull. Last night of our holidays ruined by soulless, careless, tasteless fare. Just believe me, don't eat here.

This is not a place to come if you want to have a conversation. The place is very crowded, reservations absolutely essential. The tables are very close together and it seems popular with families. Our group last night finally gave up and ate in silence. However, the food is quite good--we had everything from fajitas to sea bass and all were excellent. We were amazed at how quickly the food came to us--the fastest service we experienced in three weeks in Scotland. The waitress encouraged us to order seafood--she said it was what they are known for. Those that did order it, said it was excellent. I had two appetizers for my entree and the calamari was unusual--very large rings, but good. The portions are quite large and the desserts were wonderful.

Visited with my two daughters. Was informed of a big wait for food which was no problem. Ordered x2 fish and chips and chips along with a bowl of chips. In less than ten minutes our food arrived. If that’s a long wait I wonder what a shot wait is Food was tasty and the best fish he had in years. Left full and happy. Wonderful place with friendly helpful staff. Will definitely make a return visit as the chowder looks amazing. No photos as was too busy eating What a lovely review! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comments. It was a delight to serve you and your two lovely daughters and I’m just glad we could fit you in and serve you without much of a wait. Hopefully see you all again in the not too distant future. Tim
