This little cafe is tucked into a store that also sells books and nicknacks - with tables and chairs nestled in and around the shelves and displays. Itâs quaint and cute, but more importantly nourishing in body and soul! Lovely coffees and hot chocolates (how big is the serve!) and tasty delights on offer too. The cafe is in a prime position, on Market Square, close to the highlights of Burra, which is itself a quaint and gorgeous historical town. For those used to the history of places like Maldon in Victoria, youâll find Burra and Gaslight cafe a must see destination.

Had dinner here while staying overnight in Burra. I did walk into the other pub in town and noticed that it was very busy, so much so that patrons looked agitated. I walked out and down the road. I'm glad I did. Staff were very efficient and polite, service was quick. I just had a haloumi salad which was tasty.

They were well understaffed and didnât manage to cope with a large (8people) group that must have arrived just before us. This meant that we had to wait over 90minutes for a meal (very tough after a long day driving and with a young child)Very simple meal that was ok. Thank you for your feedback.We note that the time that transpired between seating your table and payment of the account upon leaving was 1 hour and 12 minutes. Our records show that your meal was served within 40 minutes on a night where we had over 20 guests order within the space of less than 15 minutes with only 5 guests having booked.To assist us ensure sufficient staffing and food is prepared each night, and to minimise wait times, we always encourage patrons to book ahead.Upon arrival, our waitress seats guests and notifies the kitchen of every guest as they arrive. In your particular case, as Chef and Manger, I was aware that you had booked ahead and ensured the waitress took your order before those that walked in without having booked so that I could make a start on your meals.Our meals are prepared fresh to order, including sauces such as the Thai Green Curry that you ordered. With only 5 guests booked in and only myself and a waitress working that night, we did our very best to prepare quality meals in the shortest time possible, meals that were very well received by other patrons.You may recall after expressing dissatisfaction with the wait that I attended your table personally to apologise for the longer than expected wait of 40 minutes, less than half the time you claim in your review.Had you stated that you were after fast food, we would have been more than happy to recommend nearby venues that provide such a service. Our aim is to provide a warm and inviting space whereby our patrons can sit and relax, enjoy local wines and food prepared in house with love and friendly staff waiting at your table.Thank you for taking the time to book ahead.

The staff are always welcoming here. Lunch of delicious, good size, fresh salad rolls. Love them. People coming and going all the time we were in the shop. Thanks girls, we will see you again some day.

A really excellent meal and not at all expensive. Happy hour Friday from 5 to 7 pm. Extensive menu, and some lovely specials tonight. My choice was the pork steak, tastey and well cooked. If I was hungrier I would have had the letter soup which sounds lovely. Well done, and full marks to the chef.

I have been to this pub a couple of times over the years and recently visited again as part of a long weekend away. Once again it didn't disappoint. The staff in this pub are great, the drinks are reasonably priced and I will be back.

We are often travelling through Burra and in need of a quick lunch stop. After trying most of the others, we have settled on Cook O'Burra as our trusted local lunch provider. Great service - always with a smile - fast food - clean tables if you want to eat in on a cooler day plus plenty of outdoor tables for sunny days.

This is a small family pub, so donât expect much.The menu was very basic.We waited one hour for food to be served and it was not busy. When it did arrive, the meals were like warm, except for the stews.Below average.There were 14 meals ahead of yours. On your arrival there was a table of 7 placing an order. Your table dined in a smaller room. There were larger numbers in the main dining room. To say we weren't busy showed a lack of understanding of what was going on. Most meals ordered that night were variations from the menu. We are happy to accommodate where we can, but variations slow the kitchen down. Staff were around constantly. If there was an issue, like food not being the ideal temperature, then its easy to tell us. The amount of effort to write a review is actually less than to draw attention to something. On the whole customers enjoy our surroundings and service.
