Upon arriving, we were yelled at for bringing in outside coffees and told we had to leave the outside. I have never heard of such a thing and it wasn’t like we weren’t going to be buying beverages and food in there. The woman was just not nice about it. She was rude all around. I get it it’s October. I visit Salem often and year round and it wasn’t even that busy. She was rude to everyone sitting at the counter and just kept saying “we’re busy.” Girl, if you can’t handle a busy diner in October, waitressing in Salem is not for you. Everyone there was just not personable. Thankfully the pancakes PUMPKIN were delicious. Unfortunately I will not return. So many places to eat in Salem with happy hosts! Sorry to hear you had a less than stellar experience with our staff, Jamie! I will say that the prohibition of any outside food or beverages is a legal stipulation of our beer and wine license issued by the city, it's just not some arbitrary policy we have at the restaurant with the hopes of stuffing a few more bucks into our pocket. I honestly don't even think I would care that much if people could bring their own beverages in, I would just feel bad if they're missing out on the awesome drinks we offer. So I am sorry if someone on our staff seemed short with you, but she was just looking our for the restaurants best interests and as you said, it is October, and I'm sure it was busy - everyone wants to walk around town with a warm cider or pumpkin coffee this time of year, ya know? I'm definitely not saying you were rude to her, either, I did not see the interaction. However, I will say that we have the most wonderfully introverted group of servers I've ever worked alongside during my sixteen years in the restaurant industry and If one of them ever "yelled at" anyone, I would pay good money to see it. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you at least enjoyed the food, we make everything with love. I DO hope you decide to change your mind and give us another chance in the future, however! We would love to win you over!

We ate in Nathaniel's for breakfast each day of our 3-night stay because we enjoyed the ambience of the room so much, the table settings and seating arrangement were lovely and the atmosphere was relaxing. During this time, we ordered from the menu and also the continental breakfast....both were very good and my husband was impressed with the bacon and eggs. The continental had fresh fruit chilled perfectly as well as pastries, cereals, etc. I enjoyed every bite of the blueberry muffin one day and cranberry orange another. A nice arrangements of teas was presented at my request and every day, the service was excellent.Pricing was in line with other restaurants and we were thoroughly pleased.ncftx:Thank you for staying at the Hawthorne and dining in Nathaniel's before you set out on your daily adventure. We introduced a new breakfast menu a few weeks ago and updated our continental display, which caught your eye. We are pleased you enjoyed both the sunny restaurant and the service.
