Glendive was established by the Northern Pacific Railway when they built the transcontinental railroad across the northern tier of the western United States from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast. The town was the headquarters for the Yellowstone Division that encompassed 875 route miles (1,408 km); 546 (879) in main line and 328 (528) in branches with the main routes from Mandan, North Dakota, to Billings, Montana, and from Billings to Livingston, Montana. The town of Glendive is an agricultural and ranching hub of eastern Montana. The town is tucked between the Yellowstone River and the Badlands, named for the rugged terrain and jagged rock formations that are known to exist in the area. Makoshika State Park is located just east of Glendive.

My husband like to visit local bars when we travel. This place was less than welcoming. The nachos we had were average at best. The bartenders, obviously do not care if people come into their establishment. Even when we tried to strike up a conversation they wouldn't talk to us. It was very odd to us. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

For the great breakfasts that we always get here (anytime of day or night), we find this as a 'must stop' place. The food is always superb. The bacon and ham portions are of 'trucker proportions'. Fantastic taste and flavor. All other food is with very nice portion size and so very reasonably priced. Our waitress, Teresa, was so attentive to us as well as so many other customers. She made us feel very welcome! Either her or one of the other waitresses always made sure that our coffee and water drinks were always full. A sign hanging inside the restaurant said that "Joy, Sherry & Lori would check on us every 2 minutes". Sure seems like they did too. We also noted that there was a sign on the building calling this place "J & L Café". The location of this fantastic place is Exit 213 off I-94, then south about a half mile to the Sinclair Gas/Truck stop.

Take out only but burgers and fries are great. Huge portions of fries. Chicken strips are great also. Get the menu when you go to the window, step back and decide what you want. Everything fresh and cooked while you wait. Very little seating but just fine for our group. All seating outside. Most of the locals do the drive thru. We did not because of traveling and being in vehicles for so long. Very friendly people and great service. Just a hop, skip and jump of the interstate.

Just finished eating dinner here and I will start by saying the burgers and fries were tasty with good prices but the service was atrocious. The restaurant was very busy but we were not told the specials, i delivered our own waters, my husband's Sprite was hastily slammed on the table, we were not offered drink refills and in the end we went up to the front to pay and were told to hang on. Then we were left alone up front until our server returned and said she couldnt find our bill...um what? She then asked 3 other ladies about it, no one could figure out where our bill had gone so then they all turned their backs to us without any explanation. This lasted a couple minutes. Our server then said she would be back and went to deliver an iced tea to a different table. I grabbed a menu, totalled the bill and finally just called across to her that I would be leaving cash and to keep the change...Im still confused about my dining experience at Madhatters and wont be back. PS the young man behind the bar who poured me a beer while I was grabbing our waters was very prompt and friendly.

Went to dinner with friends on a busy Friday night. Service was friendly but a bit scattered and slow. Our party was mixed with sandwich/burgers and pizza. Kitchen sent out the sandwiches 15 minutes before the pizza people got dinner. With that being said the pizza was worth the wait. Great crust and sauce that was flavorful but not over powering. Tons of toppings. Give it a try but don't expect a quick stop on a weekend.

Montana is a big state. They don't come much longer if you are traveling Wast to East...Stopped for the night in Glenside and the motel staff recommended CC's.In these days of specialty restaurants and chauns, I have to admit it had been awhile since I had been in a place like this...a genuine family place popular with locals and vacationing families alike.A huge menu. Breakfast anytime, burgers, seafood, salads, spaghetti, you name it.II saw some nice looking fried fish and several huge taco bowls...filled with what, I don't know.My modest sandwich was nice, my competition's crab salad was huge.Friendly staff, but a bit overwhelmed on this Friday dinner period...it took forever to get out food.The decor has official portraits of various Miss Montanas...and a recent photo indicated that they sponsor the Teen aMiss Montana scholarship pagent. Good for them....it's nice to know a homespun, community minded place still exists.

The food was delicious, the staff were very helpful. The restaurant is a bit dated, but the food is worth the stop, the portion size was perfect, I had the Santa Fe salad, with black bean corn salsa and grilled chicken breast. A large salad with a large, grilled chicken breast, served with chipotle dressing,guacamole. About 12 dollars, but worth it.
